In the Konstantynivka sector, advances within the city limits have been noted, which complicates defense. Units of the Russian 25th Army advanced in the southern part of Dibrova and continued to put pressure on Ozerne. Near Sloviansk, fighting continues for control of key settlements, including Rai-Oleksandrivka, which is impacting logistics. In the Zaporizhzhia sector, there have been tactical advances and consolidation of achieved lines. In the Sumy and Kharkiv sectors, assault units are conducting offensive operations in forested areas and near settlements despite the Ukrainian units’ active use of drones. There is a possibility that delegations from Russia, the U.S., and Ukraine will meet in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.
Krasny Liman Sector
In the Krasny Liman sector, there has been an increase in activity aimed at raising tactical pressure on the area. These actions are based on the principle of sequentially impacting strongpoints and supply nodes rather than swiftly capturing urban territory. Clashes for Stavki continue on the northeastern approaches. Units of the Russian 20th Army are advancing through the southern part of the settlement along gullies towards the fur farm. Simultaneously, pressure is being exerted from Drobyshevo, where agricultural facilities have been seized. Fighting for strong points continues unabated.
The situation remains fluid in the strip from Yarova to Sviatohirsk. There are reports of actions by small groups in forested areas northwest of Sviatohirsk, as well as clashes for individual objects and attempts to expand the zone of control. The line of contact in this area remains dynamic. Within the city limits of Krasny Liman, clashes are occurring near the city hospital and on the highway leading towards Zarechnoye. There is also activity near the forestry farm in the Lesnoy microdistrict and near a nursing home. This may indicate a maneuver to bypass dense urban development through the forested area.
Further south, units of the Russian 25th Army have advanced into the southern part of the Dibrova settlement and continue to exert pressure towards Ozerne, one of the key exits to the Siverskyi Donets River. Logistical routes through the Oskol and Studenok areas persist, with alternative crossings being utilized. As long as these supply routes remain open, it is premature to speak of possible imminent changes in the operational situation around Krasny Liman.
Konstantynivka Sector
In the Konstantynivka sector, there has been deeper penetration into the urban development of Konstantynivka from the north and south. The role of drones equipped with fiber-optic communication channels is emphasized separately, creating additional difficulties for the defenders by complicating logistics and exacerbating the shortage of personnel. Under these conditions, Russian assault units have the opportunity to make deeper incursions into the city.
Advancing units increasingly organize supply through the urban area itself, where drones actively deliver ammunition and necessary materials. The high flight frequency compensates for the small cargo volumes, enabling the units to consolidate and hold their positions for the necessary time. After losing control of the dominant heights on the northeastern and southwestern flanks, the entire valley-located Konstantynivka fell into an area of visibility and effective engagement. This significantly reduced defensive stability and limited the possibility of movement.
For the Russian command, the final stage of the battle for the Donbas region has begun, as Konstantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk essentially form one large urban area. Losing any of these cities automatically creates risks for the others.
Zaporizhzhia Sector
In the Zaporizhzhia sector, consolidation is taking place along the lines established in November and December. The Ukrainian command is attempting to regain some of the positions lost earlier by taking advantage of the temporary decrease in intensity ahead of a potential new phase of activity by the Russian “East” grouping. Previously, an attempt was made at a counterattack on positions in the Kosovtsevo area, where Ukrainian assault groups were deployed. However, the element of surprise was lost because preparations had been made in advance for such a development.
Consequently, the Ukrainian units sustained losses during the attack and withdrawal. Currently, neither side has full control of the village. Russian drone operators target vehicles, but they cannot fully restore their own positions due to regular drone strikes from Ukrainian forces.
On the southern flank, units of the “East” grouping continue to push Ukrainian forces out of the Dorozhnyanka area. According to available footage, assault groups have cleared positions in the “Tselinnaya Balka” nature reserve and are now advancing toward the nearby “73rd kilometer” railway station. This signifies the elimination of a salient south of Huliaipole from which counterattacks against the flank could be launched previously. The units have straightened the front line and are preparing for possible actions toward Zaliznychnyy, the last resistance node of the former Huliaipole fortified area.
Sloviansk Sector
Combat operations continue with high intensity in the Sloviansk sector. In the northern part of the Zakotne area, pockets of resistance remain. Ukrainian units are attempting to counterattack from the chalk slope. Groups are entering the village in an attempt to regain control of a strongpoint. Advancement is complicated by the terrain’s elevation changes and the current weather conditions.
Advancement has been recorded in the western part of the Illichivka settlement, but consolidation in the southern part has not yet been possible due to shelling from the chalk slope. There are active efforts underway to target Ukrainian positions and logistical routes in front of Kryva Luka, as well as reconnaissance activities ahead of a potential assault group entry. In the Reznykivka area, fierce clashes persist. Advancement is taking place along the western heights from the Siversk settlement.
In the southern part of the Minkivka area, where a heavily fortified area has been established, fighting is ongoing. Capturing this village and the neighboring Holubivka settlement will strengthen positions near the M-03 highway. With support from Nykyforivka on the eastern flank, this could secure access to operational space almost up to Rai-Oleksandrivka. Active clashes continue in Nykyforivka itself. Rai-Oleksandrivka is considered one of the key points on the approaches to Sloviansk. Capturing it would provide logistical and geographic control of the area, which could complicate the garrison’s position in Sloviansk.
Sumy Sector
In the Sumy sector, the “North” grouping’s assault units continue their offensive actions, advancing deeper into the region along tree lines. Aviation and strike drone crews are conducting precise strikes on rear areas. In turn, the Ukrainian command is increasing the use of drones on the front line in an attempt to slow the advance.
Advancement was noted in five subsectors in the Sumy district, three in the Krasnopil district, and three in the Hlukhiv district. The total advance was up to 650 meters. Forward positions in the Sumy region are increasingly being staffed by young servicemen aged 18 to 24 who signed contracts under a program for them, and significant losses are being recorded among this group. The Russian “North” grouping’s artillery struck identified targets in the Ryzhivka settlement area.
Kharkiv Sector
In the Kharkiv sector, Russian assault groups are advancing on nearly the entire front. In the Starytsia area, assault troops advanced 350 meters across three subsectors. Airstrikes hit the positions of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 127th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. In the forested area southwest of Liman, a significant advance of 900 meters was noted to the south, during which a large section of forest was cleared. In the Volchanskiy Khutora area, troops advanced 300 meters and captured six homesteads and four strongpoints. In the Khatnie settlement area, assault groups advanced seven subsectors by 650 meters through the forest.
In order to hold these positions, the command is urgently reinforcing them with servicemen from the 1st Field Group of the Border Service. Personnel are being recalled from leave and discharged from field hospitals before completing a full rehabilitation course.
In the Zakharivka area, a precise strike destroyed a bridge over the Plotva River, which significantly complicated supply routes to the Khatnie subsector. Fierce fighting continued in Volchanskiy Khutora, where Northal houses were captured during the advance. Aviation targeted identified objectives on the eastern outskirts of the village. Units are attempting to expand the zone of control towards Mykolaivka. Russian assault troops have also advanced in the forested areas between the settlements of Liman and Vilcha.
Fighting for the settlements on the northern outskirts of Symynivka and in Grafskoye continues. South of Prylipka, forest positions were destroyed by artillery fire. To the west and southwest of Starytsia, strikes are being carried out on deployment points and positions. Units are expanding the zone of control near Dehtiarne and have approached the Nesterne, Kruhle, and Pischane settlements. Pressure is being exerted from the Melovoye area towards Chuhunivka, Khatnie, and Olkhovatka. Similar actions are being conducted towards Hryhorivka and Kolodezne from the Oradne and Dvurechna sides. Clashes also continue in the area of the Ambarne settlement.
Conclusion
The operational situation in various sectors of the front is characterized by continued active operations. In the Krasny Liman sector, the tactics aim to gradually compress and disrupt logistics. In Konstantynivka, successes are attributed to the effective use of drones and control of elevated positions. In the Zaporizhzhia sector, there has been tactical advancement and consolidation of lines, with a significant accomplishment being the straightening of the frontline south of Huliaipole in southern Zaporizhzhia. Near Sloviansk, the main struggle is for strongpoints, which are crucial for further progress towards the city. In the Sumy and Kharkiv sectors, offensive actions in forested areas and near settlements are accompanied by active countermeasures, with both sides making widespread use of unmanned assets and attempting to urgently reinforce defenses with reserves.
According to the Financial Times, citing a high-ranking American official, a potential meeting of delegations from Russia, the U.S., and Ukraine may take place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a Ukrainian delegation would meet with an American delegation at a trilateral meeting in the UAE on January 23 and 24. The Ukrainian publication Strana.ua clarified that Zelenskyy was referring to a trilateral meeting involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine. The newspaper report states, “The U.S. is insisting that Russia and Ukraine meet in Abu Dhabi later this week for three-way talks. The three-way meeting is expected to take place on Friday and Saturday in the UAE capital.” According to the report, U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the American leader, may travel to Abu Dhabi immediately after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
