Russia may regain T-80U main battle tanks and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles supplied to South Korea in the 1990s and in the 2000s towards state debt payments, the Russian daily Izvestia reported on September 5, citing an anonymous defense source. The proposal was reportedly to the South Korean government on September 3.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) arms transfers database, Moscow supplied 43 T-80U main battle tanks and 67 BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles to South Korea in 1995-2006.

The official version provided in Russian media outlets is that Moscow is going to cannibalize the regained military equipment. However, some military experts believe that these main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles could be delivered to Yemen or other states involved in the military conflicts.

A special kind of stupid? T-80 isn’t a 60’s tank.

Tom Johnson

It’s a T-64, the T-90 is a T-72. They were so bad that they cobbled some slapdash upgrades onto the frame and rebranded them. After the first gulf war, and the world realized how pathetic they were sales dropped.

Ilies Bekhtaoui

no idiot it was a total new design and they were good at the time some of the best so now go fuck off troll

“73 easting”, they are coffins

The Iraqi “T-72s” so called Lion of Babylon were iraqi made tanks. Iraq did not have factories that could make steel for armored tanks. Instead they made their armor from “civilian steel” materials that bathtubs and pots are made of.
Thats why we can see photos in Iraq with “t-72s” totally blown in pieces.
The T-54/55 and T-62s were safer for the iraqis to operate, because they were made of better steel.
Later they try to “improve” the Iraqi domesticlly made t-72 by putting welded steel plates on the tanks.
T-90 can take a tow and still be operative. Now go and watch Yemen blow up Murica made Abram tanks with missles from the 70s, they cook very fast. Over hyped tank like everything from murica.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself

but meanwhile we’ve seen the Merkava pieces of junk being turned into burning graves by the syrian supplied kornet missiles in lebanon – that really happened, unlike your kikes wet dreams of world war 3 between US and USSR so the chosen ones take charge. lols.

Tom, seriously, football forums are better suited for you. you can cheer for your team and comment any bullshit which will not look stupid. Here you are only cheering for US (obviously they dont need your support here) trying to tell that russians are idiots. to what end?

Tom Johnson

They are.

So your saying their tanks in an alternate universe lol. Always expect the unexpected, you don’t know if that tank is operational leave it at that but if they parade it around and call it their new tech I’m sure it is just look at the T90MS better then the Abrams by far. Its a learning experience…

John Whitehot

look at all those saudi abrams tanks burning from hits by fagot and konkurs atgms in yemen. And those are systems from the 70ies made by idiots, against the state of the art tank made by the finest country on earth after israel.

John Whitehot

u better look into the mirror before calling others assmonkeys, in the end you ‘re short, dark got a hooky nose and u’re bitter as fuck

As Oscar Wilde once said: “If you cannot answer someone’s argument, do not panic: You can always insult them and call them names.”

Very clever decission. T-80 is a T-64 modernization and inherits most of its design mentality which is not prefered by soviet and russian army. T-64 had better electronics and fire control than t-72 but suffered engine problems. Many believe that it was the reason why soviets prefered T-72 over T-64 but it is mostly its cost and exegerated relevance of fire control for MBTs. It was also the case when they decided to continue with T-90 rather than T-80. Faster-stronger and more accurate is not always the best solution. COST is the key. And mostly tanks are expandable units. Not even %1 of tank operations were conducted against other tanks. So a tank killer tank is a waste of money. So russia wants to get rid of those T-80’s and Yemen or Syria can be perfect scenes to test their efectiveness. Besides it is good to see thoese equipments in conficts. Many tank designs lile the wonderful Leopard 2 will end up whithot seeing any conflict. I am sure germen designers are not happy with that.

Russia needs to fight US sponsored terrorism.
