On August 1, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) released photos of at least four Israeli-made drones, which were found by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in a headquarters of the ISIS-affiliated Khalid ibn al-Walid Army in the town of Aabdyn in the western Daraa countryside.

Experts identified the drones’ type as the Skylark small unmanned aerial vehicle (SUAV), which is manufactured by the Israeli Elbit Systems. Skylark is launched by hand and has an operational range between 20 and 40 km. The SUAV can carry a payload of a daylight CCD or optional FLIR for night operations.

According to the Hezbollah media wing in Syria, Israeli sources said that the SUAVs were downed over the areas held by the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army last month. The sources added that similar accidents occurred before in Syria and in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
In the recent years, the SAA shot down several Israeli Skylark SUAV in southern Syria. The last such incident happened on June 19, when the SAA downed a Skylark over the town of Hadar in the southern governorate of al-Quneitra.
The Israeli military uses these USAV to conduct reconnaissance operations over the separation line with Syria as it is complicated to detect them.
