On August 21, a Syrian intelligence officer was killed and five others were wounded in two separate attacks in the southern governorate of Daraa.

In the early morning, an armored vehicle of the General Intelligence Directorate was struck by a heavy improvised explosive device (IED) while passing on a road between the towns of Baragh and Eldili in the northern Daraa countryside. Five officers were reportedly wounded as a result of the attack.

No side has claimed responsibility for any of the two attacks, yet. However, it is possible that the attacks were carried out by ISIS in response to recent Syrian intelligence operations, which resulted in the elimination of the terrorist group’s general leader in southern Syria, Abu Salem al-Iraqi, and their top military commander in the region, Abu Omar Al-Jababi.

Several attacks were reported in Daraa in the last few days. On August 18, a joint patrol of the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Military Police was targeted with an IED on Damascus-Daraa highway. The attack didn’t result in any losses.

Despite recent attacks, Syrian intelligence operations in Daraa will likely lead to more stability in the governorate on the long term.

We would welcome the elimination of Gates and Schwab. They are behind and involved with a lot of nasty things.
