On April 10, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) launched a new push against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies in the Syrian province of Hama.
In the morning, the SAA and the NDF entered the important town of Maardes controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) after powerful artillery strikes against militants positions inside the town.
As result of a series of firefights, government forces were able to capture the town, according to some local sources and pro-government media activists. Reports also suggest that a number of members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were also involved in the operation.
If the fall of Maardas into the hands of the SAA, the NDF and the IRGC is confirmed, the nearby village of Iskanderiyah will also be seized by government forces during next few hours.
However, clashes are still ongoing in the area of Maardas. Thus, government forces are still need to secure their gains in the area.
On Sunday, SF reported that the Syrian military was deploying large reinforcements to northern Hama. The Monday government advance in the area was a common result of this effort.
I can confirm this town will fall again, when two pick up trucks and a heavy machine gun roll into town.
LOL!
But let’s hope not.
