On December 29, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that its fighters captured the villages of al-Bahrah, al-Kishkiyah, al-Jabal and al-Qahawi north of Hajin town on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. SDF fighters destroyed two armored vehicles of ISIS and killed 67 ISIS fighters during their advance, according to the SDF media center.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS fighters launched a counter attack on positions of the SDF in the village of al-Bahrah and killed 3 SDF fighters. ISIS fighters also attacked the SDF in the village of al-Kishkiyah and killed 13 fighters of the SDF, according to Amaq.
Moreover, the ISIS-linked news agency reported that ISIS fighters shelled the positions of the SDF in the villages of al-Bahrah, al-Kishkiyah and Abu Hamam with dozens of mortars.

The US-backed force launched its attack on the last stronghold of ISIS in the Euphrates valley, Hajin town on December 28 and captured several positions around the town. However, the terrorist group was able to recapture all the positions it had lost around Hajin in a rapid counter attack on the next day.
The new attack of the SDF north of Hajin is likely an attempt by the SDF to besiege the town before trying to capture it again.
