On March 14, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Nation Defense Forces (NDF) repelled an attack by several US and Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups on their positions in the northern Hama countryside and recaptured the villages of Karnaz and al-Hamamiyat, according to the SAA media department.
Pro-government sources reported that the SAA had killed 47 fighters and commanders of the FSA. Russian Aerospace Forces warplanes also supported the SAA and destroyed several positions of the FSA in northern Hama and southern Idlib, according to the sources.
Earlier, Syrian opposition sources claimed that only US and Turkish-backed FSA groups had been taking part in in the attack against the SAA in northern Hama . However, the former brunch of al-Qaeda in Syria, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) revealed via its Iba’a news agency that its fighters had participated in the attack.
HTS and the FSA will likely launch another attack against the SAA in northern Hama soon, as they are desperate to support militants in the Damascus subrub of East Ghouta in any possible way.
