On December 16, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) resumed their advance in the southeastern Aleppo countryside, and captured Rasm Sayyalah and Abeda villages southwest of Khanasir town, according to the Hezbollah media wing.
In response to the SAA advance, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) shelled the civilian areas around the 1070 housing complex south of Aleppo city with rockets, according to Syrian pro-government sources. The sources said that the shelling didn’t result in any casualties.
Meanwhile in the southern Idlib countryside, the SAA continued advancing, and captured the strategic Tall Khanzir village, according to the Hezbollah media wing. Thus, the SAA is now deployed within only 4km from the strategic Abu Dali village north of Tall Khanzir.
Syrian opposition sources reported that Russian warplanes conducted dozens of airstrikes to support the SAA advance. The Russian airstrikes mainly targeted HTS positions in Maar Shamshah village in the southern Idlib countryside according to the sources.

HTS will likely lose more areas in the region between the southern Idlib countryside and the southwestern Aleppo countryside in the upcoming days, as its defense lines are collapsing rapidly.
