On Sunday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Tiger Forces launched the final phase of their military operation to clear the western bank of the Euphrates River from ISIS, according to pro-government sources.
The SAA and the Tiger Forces liberated the villages of Salhiyah, al-Jadleh, Qusur Um Saba, Safsafeh, Ajrama, Wadi al-Worod, Maan Al-Sabkha and al-Shamr al-Layeh in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
The SAA and its allies also captured and secured the al-Ward oil field located between the cities of Mayadin and al-Bukamal, according to pro-government sources.
Moreover, Syrian pro-government and oppositions sources said that the SAA soldiers are currently attacking ISIS positions in the village of al-Qut’ah. This village is located 16km north from the SAA positions in al-Bukamal.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense of Russian announced that six Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers targeted several positions of ISIS in Deir Ezzor governorate on Sunday supporting the SAA advance.
The rapid advance of the SAA suggests that the ISIS defense fully collapsed on the western bank of the Euphrates. Due to this, the SAA will likely secure the entire western bank in the upcoming days and besiege the remaining ISIS fighters in the east Homs desert.
