Syrian Army Kills over 30 ISIS Terrorists in Deir ez-Zor

Syrian troops continued their military operations in Deir ez-Zor, killing tens of terrorists, including militants from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco.

Military bases and centers of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, located in al-Sana’iyeh and al-Roshdiyeh districts and in the village al-Jafra in the eastern parts of Deir ez-Zor, were targeted by the Syrian Army. As a result, over 20 terrorists were killed, while their weapons and ammunition were blown up.

A clash between Syrian soldiers and IS terrorists also erupted in the eastern side of the Deir ez-Zor airbase. About 10 militants lost their lives in the fighting.

IS terrorists also attempted to attack Syrian military units, stationed in al-Jafra suburb, located in the southeastern side of Deir ez-Zor, but failed to do this. As a result, terrorists suffered heavy losses and lost three military vehicles.

A military vehicle of the IS group was smashed with missiles of the Syrian Armed Forces in Hawija al-Sakar-al-Jafra passage, located in the southeast of Deir ez-Zor. All terrorists, who were inside the car, were killed and wounded.

On Wednesday, there were clashes between Syrian soldiers and IS terrorists near the al-Thardah Mountain, southwest of Deir ez-Zor city, as well as near the Deir ez-Zor airbase, south of the city. As a result, terrorists suffered heavy losses. A battle between the Syrian Army and the IS terrorist group has been ongoing near the al-Thardah Mountain and the south part of the airbase since positions of Syrian troops, deployed near Deir ez-Zor, were struck by the the US-led coalition’s airpower two months ago.

Meanwhile, an attack of IS terrorists, seeking to capture al-Jafrah in order to get a chance to come to the eastern gate of the Deir ez-Zor airbase, was repelled by Syrian troops.

According to the latest reports, the most part of clashes are currently ongoing in areas to the south and southeast of the Deir ez-Zor airbase. The IS terrorist group hopes to establish its control over the airbase and increase its pressure on Syrian troops in the city, as capture of the airbase would cut off all routes for dispatch of fresh soldiers and military hardware to Deir ez-Zor. Currently, units of the Syrian Army, stationed in Deir ez-Zor city, can receive government’s deliveries only from the air. A distance between their positions and the closest military base of the Syrian Army, located in Palmyra, east of Homs province, is about 160 kilometers.

The Army needs to chuck terrorists out of the towns of al-Sukhnah and Arak in eastern Homs in order to raise the siege of Deir ez-Zor city.
