Syrian Army, Hezbollah Reach Iraqi Border Near Al-Bukamal (Map)

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah have reached the Iraqi border southwest of the ISIS-held town of al-Bukamal, according to pro-government sources.

The SAA and Hezbollah are now deployed near Akash fields and de-facto controls the road headign to the Iraqi city of al-Qaim, which was liberated by the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units on Friday.

As soon as Syrian forces liberated Akash and secure their flanks, they will push towards al-Bukamal. Some sources say that ISIS members are now withdrawing from their stronghold. If true, al-Bukamal will be liberated within few days.

You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

At last! Capturing Al Bukamal by the Syrian army is of great importance. Hope they will succeed on very short term.

SUB-CIPHER

That would be fucking awesome if it’s true. Hope we can get confirmation on that.

Taking Al Bukamal will be a big blow to the US SDF. There will be a direct supply corridor from Iran to Iraq Syria & Lebanon

SUB-CIPHER

The SAA already controls a corridor to the border with Iraq. Taking Al Bukamal just means they won’t have to bother building a new highway to get to and from Baghdad.

Solomon Krupacek

not only road. the whole infrastructure PLUS pipeline! al bukamal is strategic city

Attrition47

Ooh-aah Hezbollah sing ooh-aah Hezbollah!

Great!

As long as Iraqis control their side of the border ISIL doesn’t have any chance of mounting a successful stand in the desert west of Al Bukamal. And they’ll get a$$fucked in Al Bukamal.

Tarciso Ribeiro

They will survive ,unless they become SDF.

Zero importance. Kurds have no chance of establishing normal economy confined in current teritories. They will have to sit down with Syrian Government.
US Coalition has zero chips left. Damascus-Baghdad-Iran highway will be open.
Al-Tanf becomes what it was from the start-invaded teritory, just like N. Syria.
Invaders out! Once they establish they have nothing to gain from backing Kurds, they will left them as they did with Talibans in Afganistan, Iraqi Army, Libyan Army, the history repeats itself over and over, only fools would believe what US foreign policy makers claim. They are not your allies. Never been. Rock-Turkey and a hard place Kurds.
Interesting…Bye Saudi pipeline, bye OPEC unfair domination.
Welcome market competition! USA cherishes a fair and open markets, right?
I’m expectiong the shift on South Asia and Africa.

ISIS only has goats left, and they are mostly male at this late stage of the failed caliphate.

SnowCatzor

Nice, hopefully al-Bukamal falls without much a fight so they can secure those gas fields to the north as well. Before the US-Israeli pets take it.

Ronald

Don’t forget to position a presence on the east side of the river , SDF would love to slide in there and claim half the city .

Gary Sellars

The SAA/Allies strategy is becoming clear – ignore the SDF and their (temporary) grabbing of oil fields east of the Euphrates (they will return to Damascus control after hostilities). Ensure the Euphrates cities are in government hands and establish a secure Iraq-Syria logistics corridor as a logistics spine for the Shia crescent.

Good work lads!!

I completely agree. To that I would add a joint Syria Iraq buffer zone on their shared border to the Turkish border to split Israelistan in two so that it can be pocketed from there as part of restoring government sovereignty over northern areas.

What’s the bet the SDF announces that lots of “tribal fighters” have joined as new recruits in the coming weeks?
