The first one of the freed highways, the Qastal Ma’af road connects the provincial capital of Lattakia and Kassab, a checkpoint on the border with Turkey. The town of the same is located some 7 miles to the south of the border and is predominantly populated by Turkmen.

Militants are reported to have fled the town of Rabia, after the government offensive. The forces led by Damascus are expected to focus their efforts on liberating the town.

The Syrian Arab Army have pushed terrorists out of Height 713 and al-Koz Mountain following the launching of the Russian warplanes airstrikes against militant targets in the area.
