On September 25, several units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) accompanied by a force from the Russian Military Police entered the al-Yarmouk valley in the western countryside of Daraa.

The deployment is a part of a reconciliation agreement that was accepted by the local leaders of al-Yarmouk valley two days ago.

Under the agreement, the towns of Sahem al-Golan, Hayt, and Jillin will join the reconciliation process on September 25 and 26, while the towns of al-Shajarah, Jamlah, Nafaa, Qusair, Koya, Abdeen and Beit Ara will join the process on September 27 and 28.

More than 127 wanted gunmen in al-Yarmouk valley will reportedly hand over their arms and settle their situation with Syrian authorities.

The al-Yamouk valley was a stronghold of the Khalid Ibn al-Walid Army, a branch of ISIS. The terrorist group was neutralized by the SAA and former rebels following the 2018 reconciliation agreement in Daraa.

The reconciliation agreement in al-Yarmouk valley is a major success for the reconciliation process in the western Daraa countryside, which was launched by Syrian authorities with support from Russia earlier this month.

The process appears to be going according to plan. Nevertheless, Syrian authorities will have to make much more efforts in order to secure and stabilize Daraa. The governorate is still filled with armed radicals.
