Early on November 24, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a special operation in the northeastern countryside of Daraa.

The operation, which was carried out by a commando unit from the army’s 5th Division, targeted three wanted militants who were taking shelter in a farm located between the towns of Nahtah and Mlaiha al-Sharqiyah. All three militants were killed during the operation.

The slain militants, Mohamad Shukri al-Daran, Mahmoud Hussein al-Abdulrahman and Hashem Qassem al-Saleh, were reportedly behind several attacks on Syrian service members in Daraa.

During the recent Russian-sponsored reconciliation process in Daraa, the three militants were offered a chance to hand over their weapons and settle their legal status. However, they refused to do so.

A few days ago, the Syrian Military Intelligence Directorate (MID) carried out a similar special operation near the town of Khirbet Ghazaleh in the northeastern countryside of Daraa. A wanted man was killed and two others were apprehended. The available information suggests that the three men were also involved in attacks on Syrian service members in Daraa.

Syrian authorities are now operating in Daraa with much more freedom. Stricter measures are being implemented to secure and stabilize the governorate.
