On November 22, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Tiger Forces captured the villages of Ajrama, al-Safsafah, Ksu Umm Saba, al-Jahlah, al-Dwair, Wadi Abu Jasim, Surat al-Kshma, Subaykhan and Gharbiyah on the western bank of the Euphrates River, south of the city of Mayadin in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the Hezbollah media wing in Syria.
Pro-government sources also reported that the SAA and Hezbollah launched a military operation north of al-Bukamal city to capture the villages located between al-Bukamal and al-Salihiyah. However, the SAA and its allies didn’t advance yet.
From its side, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq said that ISIS fighters attacked several positions of the SAA in the town of al-Asharah south of Mayadin on November 21. ISIS fighters killed at least 7 fighters of the SAA in al-Asharah. However, ISIS didn’t capture the town.
On November 21, Amaq also reported that ISIS fighters attacked al-Bukamal from the northern direction. According to Amaq, during the attack ISIS fighters destroyed a tank of the SAA with an ATGM and targeted a SAA bulldozer with an armed drone. Moreover, ISIS fighters shelled SAA positions inside and around al-Bukamal with Grad rockets.
The remaining ISIS fighters on the western bank of the Euphrates river will likely flee towards the eastern bank of the river in the upcoming weeks. However, hundreds of ISIS fighters are still hiding in the Homs desert.
