On November 23, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) captured the village of Beitima in the Western Ghouta region, according to Syrian pro-government sources. The SAA and NDF besieged Beitima on November 22.
Local sources from Western Ghouta said that Beitima locals had had a reconciliation agreement with the SAA just like the village of Kafr Hawr. However, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took over the village months ago.
Pro-government source also reported that the SAA launched an attack on HTS positions in the strategic Bardae Hill south of HTS’ stronghold in Western Ghouta, Beit Jinn. The sources claimed that the SAA captured many positions of the HTS around the hill. However, these claims are yet to be confirmed by any official source.
From its side, the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a reported that Syrian attack helicopters targeted several positions of HTS in the Bardae Hill. Moreover, Syrian opposition sources claimed that 15 SAA soldiers were killed during the clashes around the hill on November 23.
The SAA will get a huge advantage if it captures the Bardae Hill, which overlooks the town of Beit Jinn. HTS fighters may agree to withdraw from Beit Jinn to Idlib governorate after they lose the strategic hill.
