Syrian Army begins surprise offensive in the Golan Heights

AlMasdarNews reports: Golan Heights, Syria (5:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s 9th Armored Division, backed by Fouj Al-Joulan, launched a surprise offensive in the Golan Heights on Tuesday night, targeting the small village of Al-Ajraf, which was under the control of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s (formerly Nusra Front).

Following a fierce battle on Tuesday night, the Syrian Armed Forces broke-through Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s first line of defense, forcing them to retreat towards the key town of Umm Batna in the southern part of the Golan Heights.

According to a military source in the Al-Quneitra Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces suffered no casualties during the swift offensive at Al-Ajraf, only a few minor injuries.

The source added that the Syrian Armed Forces are now targeting the town of Umm Batna with a barrage of mortar shells and rockets, as they cast their eyes on this jihadist stronghold in the Golan Heights.

The capture of Al-Ajraf on Tuesday night will alleviate a lot of pressure on the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at the imperative hilltop of Tal Kroum and nearby Ba’ath City.

I guess we’ll soon see if Israel is switching sides after the latest Netanyahu/Putin meeting. Last time the Syrians operated in the Golan, they attacked them.
