Detailed Look At Syrian Army Advance Against ISIS In Eastern Aleppo Countryside

On May 10, government forces, led by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces, captured the village of Al-Mahdoum west of the Jirah Military Airport in the eastern Aleppo countryside.

This advance is considered to be a part of the fresh SAA operation against ISIS terrorists in the eastern Aleppo countryside aimed at capturing the strategic town of Maskana. Maskana is de-facto located between the provinces of Raqqa and Aleppo.

The Russian Aerospace Forces supported SAA troops bombing ISIS gatherings and vehicles in the area between Al-Jirah Military Airport and the town of Maskana.

From its side, pro-ISIS sources claimed that ISIS members had destroyed a 23mm gun with an ATGM in the village of Kharaj Daham and a T-72 battle tank and a BMP-1 vehicle in the village of Jarrah Saghir. A number of Syrian soldiers was allegedly killed or wounded in the village of Atshana as a result of 2 VBIED attacks on SAA troops there.

ISIS also managed to damage a SAA T-72 battle tank in the village of Ma’moura after targeting it with an armed drone.

One of the most important objectives of the current government operation is to secure the east side of Khanasser road in order to isolate it completely from the ISIS-held area. This became especially imortant after the terrorist group had managed to smuggle large numbers of terrorists through it. ISIS members also smuggled modern weapons like anti-tank missiles bought from US-backed FSA groups in the province of Idlib.

pics above look kinda suspicious to me. But even if the explosion originated from the bomblet hitting the tank, it did not cause much damage. Probably the dismounts around the scene would had been better targets.

testera

Yep, if it’s a fragmentation bomblet. It may be HEAT (it even has something resembling a standoff tip), in which case engine deck armour is legit target.

John Whitehot

Normally the standoff tip is to make the bomblet explode at some centimeters from the ground in order to spread its fragments farther.

It’s very unlikely that it’s a HEAT kind of weapon. Despite looking like some sort of mortar grenade (although it’s got an unusual shape), it’s almost surely something the ragheads manufactured in some shithole. HEAT ammo needs a certain level of machining precision as its effectiveness is owed to the shape of the copper liner – a precision that can’t be attained at ISIS level.

testera

It could be a bomblet just taped to some plastic.

I just find it hard to accept that someone capable of arming a drone and hitting a tank is dumb enough to not see bunch of soldiers around first vehicle.

John Whitehot

The first weapon on your link somehow rensembles the one in the pic. It also gives sense to the duct tape – in the cluster bomb assembly the fuse is probably armed on drop by some device, while in this case, since they don’t have the container, they need to keep the spool in place with the tape so that it blows on impact.

PZIVJ

Is that duct tape around the bomblet?
One of the new ISUS weapons may be Adobe Photoshop.

Attrition47

Do you mean the “much-vaunted” Adobe Photoshop Mk I? I hear that the Mk II is much better. ;o))

John Whitehot

it looks like duct tape. What for? Perhaps to avoid the spool to go off until dropped? They must load it on the drones already armed, any more or less abrupt maneuver by the drone could make the bomb blow, if its sensitivity is not somehow lowered.

It’s strange that they take this kind of measures, when you have god on your side, your bombs always blow at the right moment lmao.

testera

Looks like standard black electrical tape to me.

The air forces really need to ramp it up against daesh here like they were doing in Homs/hama a few weeks ago, like really intense like that, or they need some tiger forces, or both!

Jens Holm

I hope You will be there.

Thegr8rambino

Why?

Jens Holm

You might know how it is to be bombarded. I`ll pay for an umbrella for You.

Airforces as well as others not only hit daesh, and You dont care.

Thegr8rambino

Hahahaha actually I’d much rather you be there, I want u to know what bombardment is like, I do not
