The Syrian National Defense Forces published a photo from Hama showing what appeared to be an electronic warfare system to jam drones operated by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies. It’s thought to be developed by the Syrian Scientific Research Center.

The photo shows the system installed on a truck belonging to the “Electronic Warfare Forces ” according to the official National Defense Forces page on Facebook.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has already managed to down over 8 drones, some of them armed in Hama, Latakia and western Aleppo. It seems that these drones were downed using this Syrian made jamming system.

It is worth mentioning that ISIS armed drones in Iraq caused large losses in the ranks of Iraqi security forces, pushing the United States to deploy AUDS anti-drone systems. The US system detects drones and then down them by jamming.

Earlier this month, Iraqi forces began using the South Korean Raysun MD1 system to down ISIS drones over the city of Mosul.

It’s worth to note that these systems in both Syria and Iraq significantly reduce the effectiveness of militant drones, whether it’ armed or used for reconnaissance.

My heart weeps for those poor Jihadi drone operators who are losing their precious toys.

Not!

Toni Liu

Better to stop them as soon as possible before they learn and made something like isis did in mosul

Thegr8rambino

I immediately let out this very evil raucous laugh when I read of how badly jihad is and terrorists are losing lmao

That Guy

Saddam Hussein is alive.

first photo, the guy with the hat.

Samuel Boas

Thank God he’s back.

Ser Korz

Oh brother.

MeMadMax

Whatever happened to the TOW “dazzeler”?

You would think they would have that everywhere thick as fleas by now… But it seems to have disappeared?

Mikey Harry Harris

Real combat tends to shake out the systems that don’t live up to the hype.

Thegr8rambino

100% truth

Sinbad2

The problem is the weapons get shared around, yesterday TOW’s were hitting Syrian tanks, today they are hitting American Humvee’s in Afghanistan.

CyricRenner

Exactly. This is why Russia selling the S400 to Turkey is a huge mistake.

Solomon Krupacek

i hope, it will not happen.

Russia is considering to sell the S400, its not confirmed.
At the same time, Turkey is just playing the Russians.

Bill Rood

I think you can assume any S400s sold to Turkey will have a back door for which only Russia has the key.

Bill Rood
The S400’s firmware makes it ineffective against Russian aircraft, etc.

Its also the same for US, UK, Missile Systems sold to Saudi Arabia, GCC Arabs, etc, these are ineffective against NATO or Israeli aircraft.

John Whitehot

and when did that happen? Turkey telling that does not make it true.

omg. if you say so.

MeMadMax

The tow dazzeler is not a weapon.
Its a counter measure against the tow, it confuses it and misses its target.

Real Anti-Racist Action

I am surprised that Iran was not able to provide Syria with these 1-2 years ago.
Iran always boast such advances, but here their number one ally in the world was falling and getting beaten badly, and they lifted one single finger to help, and not two or three or four fingers.
Iran could have helped to end the war by 2016 or 2015 if they had wanted to.
Shame.
Iran should be exporting the bravar S-373 anti air system or whatever, but still Israel is free to bomb the Syrian people.

Iran does not relies the gravity of this situation, and later when Saudi Arabia and Israel and US and Turkey and UK all attack Iran, Iranians are going to regret not having put everything into defending their allies abroad.

Kirov

Iran doesn’t have electronic warfare suites in their arsenals. Except for those supplied from Russia.

Ronald

2012 do you remember the Iranians taking over the US , RQ 170 , and landed it . The Americans were very upset .

Kirov

because they have russian ones in their arsenals

John Whitehot

commercial drones dropping grenade size weapons are a relatively new method, 1-2 years ago it was considered something exotic and improvised. Today it seems that the ragtards have somehow refined this kind of attacks both technically and tactically, although the primary reason they are dangerous lies in the difficulty in spotting and hearing them, at least without some kind of continous dedicated surveillance

Thegr8rambino

Better late than never tho right?

Along with Iran add Russia.
Both have allowed Syria to fall towards the edge of an abyss.

Solomon Krupacek

southfront is correct. they did not show the face of soldier in the first picture.

unfortunately almasdarnews did it. this should not happen.

Bob

This technology for jamming and seemingly overriding drones seems close to being commercially available for consumers.
