Under the cover of darkness on the night of June 29-30, Russian forces launched another large-scale drone and missile assault across Ukraine, striking military logistics hubs, fuel depots, and defensive positions in a coordinated wave of attacks.
According to the Air Force of Ukraine, the attack involved at least 107 kamikaze and decoy drones launched from multiple directions, including Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, and Millerovo regions, as well as Crimea. While Ukrainian air defenses allegedly managed to intercept 74 of the incoming drones, the military officials confirmed that the remaining strikes inflicted significant damage in at least 15 locations, with fires still raging by morning.
According to the Ukrainian military, the primary focus of the attack was Ukraine’s eastern and southern fronts, particularly the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. In the Kharkiv region, Russian strikes hit military warehouses in Balakliya and Derhachi, while guided aerial bombs struck a Ukrainian deployment point in Velykyi Burluk. Further south, explosions rocked Pavlohrad in the Dnipro region, with footage confirming drone strikes destroying a recruitment center in Kryvyi Rih, where thick plumes of smoke rose after the impact.
Highlighting damage in the east, the Ukrainian military tried to hide that the devastating results of another concentrated attack in the south. The most concentrated strikes pounded the city of Odessa and its region, where Russian forces reportedly employed advanced Geran-3 kamikaze drones. This is a newly deployed type of UAVs with a turbojet engine capable of reaching speeds up to 800 km/h in a dive.
The new wave of strikes devastated coastal logistics infrastructure, including a major distribution center in Sovinyon, where foreign-supplied chemical materials for military production were reportedly destroyed. The port of Chornomorsk (formerly Illichevsk) suffered heavy damage, with its grain terminal used by the military set ablaze during a nighttime unloading operation. Satellite imagery later confirmed a massive fire at a large fuel storage facility near Odesa’s Burlacha Balka rail-ferry terminal, while additional strikes ignited fires at the city’s fish port and a Black Sea fuel terminal. Russian sources claimed the attacks successfully targeted warehouses storing Ukrainian naval drones, as well as facilities allegedly housing foreign personnel.
In their turn, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted drone strikes in the Russian rear. Russian air defenses downed 15 Ukrainian drones over the Kursk region and the Sea of Azov.
The assault underscores Moscow’s intensified campaign to disrupt Kyiv’s supply lines and naval capabilities, particularly as Western weapons continue flowing through Odesa’s ports.
