On June 18, the Somali National Army (SNA) announced that it killed 30 terrorists of al-Qaeda-affiliated Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen during a recent operation in the southern region of Middle Shebelle.
The operation took place in the area of Jalable, where al-Shabab terrorists were planning attacks against government forces.
“The militants attempted to resist the army, but our forces managed to kill 30 of them and injured 24 others,” Ali Hashi, a spokesman for the SNA, told the military radio, according to Xinhua News Agency.
One of the terrorists killed during the operation was identified as Jama Dhere, a senior leader of al-Shabab in Middle Shabelle. The terrorist group is known to be highly active in the region.
Gorgor special forces, which received high-level training by Turkish advisors at Camp TURKSOM in Mogadishu, took part in the operation. They are reportedly one of the most capable units in the SNA.
The SNA, backed by regional forces, stepped up its operations against al-Shabab recently. The military killed 130 terrorists in Middle Shabelle and liberated six villages in the last few weeks only.
