On August 6 morning, two officers and four soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed and six other service members were wounded when their post in Hantutin the southern Idlib countryside came under attack.

A source in the SAA told SouthFront that five terrorists targeted the post with an anti-tank guided missile before infiltrating its defenses as a part of an “Inghimasi attack” [suicidal raid]. The terrorists then clashed with the personnel who were manning the post.

All five terrorists were killed by SAA, according to the source. The bodies of at least three of them are now in the hands of the army.

The raid was reportedly carried out by Uzbek terrorists of Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad, a unit of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The terrorist group is the de-facto ruler of the northwestern region of Greater Idlib.

HTS’ Uzbek terrorists carried out a similar “Inghimasi attack” on April 21. Back then, two soldiers of the SAA were killed and another was wounded.

Hantutin raid was the most recent in a series of violations of the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib, which was brokered Russia and Turkey last year. These violations will likely go unpunished. The SAA and its allies, first and foremost the Russian Aerospace Forces, may respond in the upcoming few days.
