Ibrahim Parim, a logistics officer of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), was captured in northern Iraq in an operation by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, MİT, the Anadolu Agency reported on February 10.

Sources with knowledge on the matter told the Turkish state-run news agency that the leader, also known by his nom de guerre “Laser,” was operating in Sinjar near the Iraqi border with Syria.

“He is currently being questioned by counter-terrorism police as per the instructions of the Ankara prosecutors,” the agency’s report reads.

Parim reportedly took part in the 2014 demonstrations in the eastern Turkish province of Van, which were organized by the PKK. In 2015, he joined the Kurdish group.

The PKK, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, has been in conflict with Turkey for more than 30 years now. The group operates in the northern Iraq as well as in Syria’s northeastern region.

On February 10, Turkey launched an operation, dubbed “Claw-Eagle 2”, against PKK cells in the northern Iraqi province of Dohuk. At least three Turkish service members were killed by the Kurdish group in the first day of the operation.

Turkey’s repeated operations against the PKK in Syria and Iraq have failed to inflict a critical damage on the Kurdish group so far.
