On October 5, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) imposed control of 6 new positions in the vicinity of the town of Hajin in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the SDF media center. US-backed forces killed 38 terrorists and destroyed three vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) and two bulldozes of ISIS during the clashes around the strategic town.
The SDF has been advancing slowly around Hajin for more than a month now. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed two days ago that a special forces unit of the U.S. Marines was deployed around the town to speed up the operation there. However, the advance is still limited for few positions every day.
Meanwhile, the remaining ISIS fighters in the Euphrates Valley pocket stepped up their defensive operations against US-backed forces. On October 5, the terrorists shelled several positions of the SDF in the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, 25km south of Hajin, with 20 mortar rounds and 5 rocket-propelled grenades.
The US-led coalition will likely step up its airstrikes on the ISIS-held pocket in the upcoming days in order to break the remaining defense lines of the terrorist group.
