On October 2, the Syrian Democratic Faces (SDF) announced that its Anti-Terror Forces, known as HAT, had arrested a dangerous bomb maker of ISIS during a special operation backed by the US-led coalition in the northeastern Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah.

“Our forces, enabled by the international coalition, have arrested a dangerous terrorist affiliated with Daesh [ISIS] and responsible for manufacturing IEDs [improvised explosive devices] and transporting them to Daesh cells in the countryside of al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor,” Farhad Shami, a spokesman for the SDF, said.

The terrorist, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested from his home in the town of Markadah in the southern al-Hasakah countryside. SDF seized explosives and a number of weapons during the operation.

The SDF stepped up its operations against ISIS cells in northeastern Syria in the last few weeks with support from the US-led coalition. The group’s Anti-Terror Forces have been leading these operations.

The HAT was trained and equipped to conduct anti-terror operations by the US-led coalition. In a recent joint exercise, HAT fighters trained on M224 60 mortars and were introduced to M2A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

Despite much efforts by the SDF and the US-led coalition, ISIS cells continue to launch attacks in northeastern Syria, especially in al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor.
