Saudi Arabia Says Its Air Defense Forces Intercepted Houthi Suicide Drone Over Jizan (Photos)

The Royal Saudi Air Defense Force (RSADF) has successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) packed with explosives over the Kingdom’s southern province of Jizan.

“At 7:14 pm (0714) this morning, the RSADF managed, thank God, to intercept and shot down a drone carrying explosives, that was launched by the Houthi terrorist militia,” a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, Col. Turki al-Malki, said on May 26.

According to Col. al-Malki, the explosives-packed UAV was heading to attack the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport in central Jizan.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) released several photos of the UAV’s wreckage. The photos revealed that the UAV was of the “Qasef” type, a copy of the Iranian Ababil-2 that’s usually used by the Houthis.

Earlier, the pro-Houthis al-Masirah TV announced that the Yemeni rebel group targeted the military section of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport with a Qasef-2K suicide UAV.

While al-Masirah claimed that the attack was successful, the coalition’s statement and the photos released by the SPA confirm that the UAV didn’t reach its designated target.
