Russia’s state tech corporation Rostec will unveil its newest high-mobility multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) Sarma at the World Defense Show 2026 exhibition, which opens its doors in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, from February 8 to 12.

“The Rostec State Corporation will unveil its latest high-mobility multiple launch rocket system, the Sarma, for the first time. The weapon system’s premiere will take place at the World Defense Show 2026 international defense and security exhibition in Riyadh as part of Rosoboronexport’s display,” the company said in a statement posted to Telegram.

The Sarma is based on the KamAZ 63501 armored 8×8 chassis, and boasts six 300 mm launch tubes, in addition to a new automated fire control and guidance suite. The MLRS has a crew of just three, and can also be remotely controlled from a shelter.

“One of the features of the new combat vehicle is its high mobility. It is able to take a firing position in just 3 minutes and leave it in the same time… The vehicle can use both proven guided rockets of the ‘Tornado-S’ system and new ammunition. The entire salvo of MLRS missiles can be fired in just 18 seconds,” noted Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Weapons, Ammunition and Special Chemicals Cluster at Rostec State Corporation and a member of the Bureau of the Russian Union of Machine Builders.

The guided artillery rockets that the Sarma can fire are from the 9М54-series, which feature a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system and have a minimum range of 40 kilometers and a maximum range of up to 120 kilometers.

9М54-series rockets, which are available with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead or cluster submunition, have proven to be very effective during the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

The Russian military has already ordered the Sarma, but the MRLS is already to see action in the special military operation zone. Nevertheless, it can be expected to perform as well as the much heavier Tornado-S, with better mobility and protection.
