The intensity of strikes on December 9-10 was relatively low. Ukrainian Air Force reported Russian forces launched 80 strike drones, downing 50. Russian Air Defense destroyed 20 Ukrainian UAVs over Bryansk, Kaluga, Belgorod, and Moscow regions.

These now-routine attacks once again paralyzed Ukraine’s energy system and coincided in timing with a statement by Russian hackers about creating a unique tool for planning future strikes. The KillNet collective presented a closed online platform, MATRIX, whose key module is a dynamic map of Ukrainian military-industrial complex facilities. The platform is reportedly based on data “obtained through the compromise of Ukrainian information sources and systems,” including results from hacking the database of a drone manufacturers’ marketplace and the servers of the company “Boevi Ptakhy Ukrainy” (the hack was conducted jointly with the Beregini group).

Operating Principle and Capabilities of the MATRIX System

According to its creators, the interactive map is updated in real time and serves as a tool for in-depth analysis. It marks 2,131 facilities classified by type of product manufactured:

  • 850 FPV drone production sites.

  • 720 large drone factories.

  • 45 maritime UAV assembly enterprises.

  • 380 kamikaze drone creation points.

  • 136 reconnaissance drone manufacturing points.

The map includes not only locations but also connections between production sites, suppliers, and warehouses, as well as the current status of facilities (operational, damaged, destroyed). “Each point is a workshop or a production facility. The color indicates the type of drones… Today, KillNet fully monitors all of them,” noted one of the hackers. The system’s value, as claimed, lies in the transition “from reaction to proactive action, understanding where and how a threat is being created.” This tool, accessible only to a narrow circle of Russian military personnel, theoretically allows for planning strikes with high precision, targeting key nodes of drone production.

An additional success claimed by the hackers is access to information about Ukrainian Armed Forces units purchasing the advanced “Piranha” anti-drone system. Among the mentioned units are military units 3027, 3074, A4718 of the National Guard of Ukraine, unit 3057 “Rubizh,” and the “Khartyya” brigade. Such data, if accurate, provides the Russian side with more information on the location and equipment of potential targets, including units responsible for air defense.

Strikes on Ukrainian Territory

The strikes on December 9-10 caused serious damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure in several regions, exacerbating the energy crisis.

“Ukrenergo” was forced to implement emergency power outages across the country, abandoning the publication of schedules. As a source in the energy market explained, serious damage to substations, including those supplying Kyiv from the Rivne NPP, led to the shutdown of several nuclear power plant units. The power deficit was estimated at a minimum of 4 gigawatts. Experts warn that recovery from such attacks will take at least two weeks, and the situation will worsen with the onset of cold weather. Alexander Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, stated: “We will no longer have equipment to repair the energy system if Russia attacks it 2-3 more times.”

  • Sumy Region: At least 15 explosions were heard in Sumy; the city was completely de-energized. Preliminary reports indicate damage to the Sumy Thermal Power Plant.

  • Kharkiv Region: At least 10 strikes with guided aerial bombs and 5 strikes with “Geran” (Shahed) UAVs were carried out. Ukrainian Armed Forces temporary deployment points, as well as energy facilities, road infrastructure, and warehouses were hit.

  • Odesa Region: About 20-30 “Geran” UAVs attacked the Ananyiv compressor station—a key facility for the transit of regasified American and Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine.

  • Dnipropetrovsk Region: In Novomoskovsk, about 10 “Gerans” hit facilities in the area of the pipe plant.

  • Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia Regions: In Chernihiv Region, a Ukrainian Armed Forces deployment point was hit. In Zaporizhzhia Region, strikes were carried out on various targets, including logistics.

Strikes on Russian Territory

  • Cheboksary (Chuvashia): On the morning of December 9, a UAV attacked the city. Judging by the impact site, the probable target could have been the “VNIIR-Progress” defense enterprise.

  • Henichesk (Kherson Region): In the evening, Ukrainian UAVs damaged several private houses and a fish processing plant.

The events of December 9-10 underscore the evolution of the conflict towards more selective and data-driven counteraction. The announcement of the MATRIX platform suggests Russia may aim to systematically destroy Ukraine’s drone production chains, turning dispersed workshops into priority targets. Simultaneously, the ongoing strikes on the energy sector, even at a lower intensity, exert debilitating pressure, each time pushing the infrastructure closer to the brink of collapse and depleting recovery resources. Thus, the conflict is increasingly defined not only by the frontline but also by the struggle for the resilience of the industrial base and critical facilities in the rear.
