The drone units of the Russian military have began to arm their FPV suicide quadcopters with the warhead of RPO-A Shmel thermobaric weapon.
The RPO-A is a man-portable, single-use, rocket-assisted thermobaric weapon with an effective range of 600 meters. The thermobaric warhead of the weapon has a diameter of 700 mm and weighs just 2.1 kg, yet its blast is reported to be as powerful as a 152/155 mm artillery shell.
The highly-capable warhead was especially designed to defeat concealed firing positions, disable lightly armored vehicles and destroy manpower.
Video footage posted to social networks on June 10 showed a recent strike with a RPO-A-armed FPV suicide drone that targeted a house occupied by Ukrainian troops somewhere in the special military operation zone. The strike obliterated the house.
Due to the small size and light weight of the RPO-A warhead, installing it on FPV drones requires no special procedures. Some Russian drone models may be even capable of carrying two or more such warheads.
Over the past year, the Russian military expanded the use of FPV suicide drones significantly, especially the types guided via fiber-optic cables which are completely immune to electronic warfare means.
Recent reports indicate that the Russian military was using hundreds of such drones everyday, with some sources even reporting as many as 1,000 strikes a day. The range of these drones have already reached 20-30 kilometers. Work is said to be ongoing on new types with a range of up to 50 kilometers.
Russian drone units have shown a lot of creativity since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, thus the integration of RPO-A was not surprising. Soon, the RPO-Z, an incendiary version of the weapon designed to spread fire and ignite targets, could be integrated.

the speed and creativity of russia’s continued adaptation to changing battlefield conditions is impressive to the point where her enemies
should hide their swastikas and learn russian before firing the first shot.
