On December 4, ISIS Hunters of the Russian-trained 5th Assault Corps of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reported that their fighters have eliminated ISIS members allegedly involved in capturing and executing two Russian nationals in Syria.
According to the ISIS Hunter’s media wing, ISIS Hunters conducted a special operation north of the border city of al-Bukamal and killed a leader of the ISIS unit involved in the incident.

Most likely, the statement refers to two Roman Zabolotniy and Grigory Surkanov captured by ISIS in late September. The ISIS-linked media outlet Amaq argued that the captured persons were Russian soldiers. However, the victims appeared to be volunteers supporting the Syrian government, according to the Russian media. However, the fate of Roman Zabolotniy and Grigory Surkanov are still unclear.
In October, ISIS Hunters released their previous statement on the issue. Then, they were promising to “pay $1 million for every released Russian brother”. ISIS Hunters threatened to kill “100 IS[ISIS]-affiliated for each one of them” If ISIS ingnores the suggestion.
