The Air Force of Ukraine lost another aircraft in a rare aerial battle. Last night, Russian Su-30M shot down Ukrainian Su-27. Ukrainian pilot died as a result of the battle.
The result of the aerial battle was confirmed both by Russian and Ukrainian military officials.
The 831 Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Force of Ukraine reported that Ivan Bolotov, a 24-year-old captain of the Air Force of Ukraine, was killed. He has been fighting since the beginning of the war. No other details were reported by the Ukrainian side.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian Su-27 was shot down by Russian Su-30M.
According to Russian reports, immediately after the destruction of the Su-27 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian military intercepted radio communications of the Ukrainian command. Speaking in Russian, they discussed the loss of the aircraft and what reason to declare as the official version of the crash of the fighter; for example, the failure of the hydraulic system.
The destroyed Su-27 belonged to the 831 Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Force of Ukraine based at the Mirgorod airfield in the Poltava region. The Ukrainian military uses this air base to launch strikes on the Russian territory. It should not be excluded that the Su-27 in question could be shot down when targeting Russia with NATO missiles. Ukrainian forces also largely use Su-27s as bombers to launch JDAM-ER, ASC-250 HAMMER and GBU-39B SDB bombs.
The Russian aircraft probably used the R–37M ultra-long-range missile. According to various reports, the Su-27 was shot down at the distance of abou 130 kilometers,, which is less than the range of these missiles. The bord radar of the Russian Su-30M can detect their targets at about 370 kilometers.
