The Russian-sponsored reconciliation process in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Daraa is still ongoing despite facing some setbacks.

On October 21, the town of Buser al-Harir joined the reconciliation process. Several units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) entered the town, where dozens of wanted gunmen will hand over their weapons and settle their legal status.

The SAA also launched a combing operation in the Mlaiha al-Sharqiyah and Mlaiha al-Gharibyah. The operation is meant to secure the two towns, which are located in the northeastern countryside of Daraa.

In the town of Nahtah, however, the reconciliation process was halted. Many wanted gunmen in the town refused to settle their legal status, while others refused to hand over their weapons. In response, the SAA kicked off a combing operation. Several hideouts were destroyed. The reconciliation process will likely be resumed in a few days.

Syrian authorities also halted the reconciliation process in the towns of al-Hrak, Sour and Elmah, where some gunmen refused to hand over their weapons. The SAA restricted the movement to and from the three towns for the time being. The issue is being worked out.

Overall, the Russian-sponsored reconciliation agreement continues to be a success. So far, thousands of wanted gunmen have handed over their weapons and joined the process.

The situation in Daraa is slowly improving. Nevertheless, work to secure and stabilize the governorate is still far from being over.

You don’t know several things. Many Anatolian Turks are Greeks in denial. The problem with Turkey (and Iran) is that they are getting very fanatic these days even though we helped them in the past. Without NATO help, Turkey and Iran would be annexed by the Soviets and they would lose their respective Kurdistan. Now they both seem ungrateful and they are doing evil things to the nations of the Syrians and the Iraqis and they are supporting radical groups to destabilize the region.
