Russian Pantsir-S1 Intercepted Two Grad Missiles In Hama Region

On October 1, a Russian Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) system intercepted two Grad missiles fired by militants in the province of Hama.

S-400 Triumf and Pantsir-S1 missile systems that were deployed in Syria covered Russian forces stationed at Khmeimim airbase. S300 and Pantsir-S1 missile systems also protected a Russian Navy logistics center in Tartus.

The Pantsir-S1 carries highly mobile solid fuel radio-command-guided 57E6 surface-to-air missiles with an operational range of 20 km (~12.5 miles) and flight altitude of 10 km (~ 6 miles).

The Pantsir-S1 started development in 1990 using a 2K22 Tunguska as a base. The first Pantsir-S1 model was demonstrated in 1995, and was officially employed by the Russian Army in 2012.
