On November 4, the Russian Navy and the Russian Aerospace Forces held joint military drills in the Eastern Mediterranean. According to first class captain Sergei Tronev, Russian forces were tasked with securing “the group and the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic itself from a maritime direction”. The drills involved frigates Admiral Makarov and Yaroslav Mudry, early-warning system and control aircraft Beriev A-50 and Sukhoi Su-35 jets.
