The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled another wave of Ukrainian attacks in the direction of Kursk, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on September 6.
In a briefing, the ministry said that Kiev forces were prevented from advancing near the settlements of Matveyevka, Olgovka, Borki, Komarovka and Maryevka.
“As a result of active actions of Russian troops, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 30 troops killed and wounded. Moreover, one armored personnel carrier, two armored fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles were destroyed,” it added.
The ministry also reported Russian air and artillery strikes against Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, the 80th, and 82nd air assault brigades, the 92nd Assault Brigade, the 152nd Jaeger Brigade and the 1004th Security and Service Brigade.
The strikes targeted equipment and troops of these formations close to the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnyovka, Vnezapnoye, Gordeyevka, Kruglenkoye, Kazachaya Loknya, Kositsa, Leonidovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Novoivanovka, Novaya Sorochina and Snagost.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 22nd, 115th mechanized brigades, the 80th, 95th air assault brigades, the 92nd Assault Brigade, the 1st National Guard Brigade, the 101st, 103rd, 106th, 107th, and 129th territorial defense brigades in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
The strikes mainly hit the settlements of Belopolye, Boromlya, Bruski, Gritsenkovo, Glukhov, Glybnoye, Linovo, Miropolye, Orlovka, Obody, Pisarevka, Sumy, Khoten, Yunakovka and Yampol.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to up to 300 troops and 12 units of hardware, including two armored personnel carriers and 10 armored fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, one electronic warfare station, and 14 motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 10,400 servicemen, 81 tanks, 41 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armored personnel carriers, 599 armored fighting vehicles, 339 motor vehicles, 76 artillery guns, 24 MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems], including seven M142 HIMARS and five M270 MLRS systems, eight SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 19 electronic warfare stations, seven counter-battery radars, two air defense radars, eight units of engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it concluded.
The ministry and Russian media also shared several videos showing recent strikes on positions and equipment of Kiev forces in both Kursk and Sumy.
Kiev forces launched their attack in Kursk early on in August. Foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons played a key role in the attack.
The surprise attack came to a halt within a few days due to the fierce resistance of the Russian military. However, a counter-attack is yet to be launched.
