Russian Military Police Patrol Came Under Attack In Syria’s Daraa – Reports

On December 4, a patrol of the Russian Military Police came under attack in the southern Syrian governorate of Daraa, according to a number of news sources.

One of the patrol’s vehicles was reportedly struck by an improvised explosive device as it was passing on a road near the town of Izraa in the northeastern countryside of Daraa. No casualties or material losses were reported as a result of the attack.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has not commented on the alleged attack, yet. The ministry usually acknowledges attacks on Russian troops in Syria within a few days.

In October, a similar attack targeted a Russian Military Police patrol between the towns of Saida and Om Elmiathin in the eastern Daraa countryside. Back then, a few service members were allegedly wounded.

The Russian Military Police operates in different parts of Daraa to monitor the implementation of the reconciliation agreement, which was renewed a few months ago only.

Despite recent attacks, Syrian authorities remain committed to the agreement. On December 4, the authorities released 21 prisoners from Daraa.

Russia has been making immense effort to stabilize Daraa. Last week, a prominent former rebel commander from the governorate was spotted in Moscow, where he was reportedly discussing new measures to improve security in his region.

Radical groups like Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, PMU or Houthis should be defeated by any means. Cold War is not there anymore. Europe should unite, despite the differences, and see the real enemy at the gates.
