Russian Military Deploys Operative Groups in Aleppo and Hama

After the start of ceasefire in Syria, the Russian military has deployed troops in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama.

Russia’s center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria has established an observation point at the Castello Highway near the city of Aleppo and deployed operative groups in the Hama countryside.

The Castello Highway will be used for sending humanitarian aid to besieged areas of the city under the Russian observation. The Russian Hmeymim military base will receive the information on the situation on the road during the ceasefire implementation on a daily basis.

Earliy on September 13, pro-government sources say that the Syrian Arab Army has transfered control of the road to Russian marines. However, Moscow says that the Syrian government controls the area and Russian units are just observers.

It’s expected that the highway will be turned into a demilitaryzed zone.

A Russian humanitarian convoy already arrived Aleppo city via the Castello Highway. The higway also serves as an additional humanitarian corridor for local population.

Members of militant groups who wish to lay down arms have also leave the combat zone.

This road is now the corridor for the exit of gunmen from the eastern part of Aleppo who decided to stop fighting and surrender their weapons. As part of the September 9 agreements between Russia and the US on reinstating the ceasefire a special focus will be on the Castello road,” the deputy head of Russia’s reconciliation center, Sergey Kapitsyn, commented the situation.
