Russian Forces Could Soon Conduct Patrols On Syrian Coast

Sergei Novikov/TASS

The command of the Russian military group in Syria is in talks with the country’s interim government to launch joint patrols in the vicinity of its bases there, Syrian activists reported on April 15.

Russia maintains presence at two facilities on the Syrian coast, the Tartus naval base and Khmeimim air base. Russian forces are also still deployed at Qamishli airport in the northeast of the country, but that region is controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

The activists who revealed the talks said that the joint patrols would strengthen international cooperation to ensure security and maintain stability in the coast.

Russia and the Syrian government are yet to reach an agreement on the future of the bases in Tartus and Khmeimim, the two sides maintain high levels of communications.

Tensions have been mounting on the coast since government forces unleashed a deadly crackdown against the Alawite religious minority, which makes up most of the region’s population, last month. More than 1,600 civilians, mainly Alawites, were killed and tens of thousands others were displaced, with nearly 10,000 sheltering refuge at Khmeimim.

The government made numerous attempts to persuade the refugees to leave Khmeimim. However, the vast majority refuses to leave without solid security guarantees, or even international protection. Violations, including kidnappings and killings, continue to be reported.

Adding to the tensions on the coast, several mysterious drones have been intercepted by Russian air defenses over both Khmeimim and Tartus since the crackdown.

Following the crackdown, reports revealed that Russian forces had expanded their control around Khmeimim, entering at least three nearby towns to secure the air base. The move was apparently coordinated with government forces which withdrew from the towns of Qubaisiya, Bakhdarmo, and Khirbet al-Ashar.

The Syrian government has already shown willingness to cooperate with Russian forces on the coast, at least to some extent.

Involving Russian forces in security measures on the coast could help ease some of the tensions there. Nevertheless, the government may not accept the Russian initiative as it appears to be determined to subdue the Alawites.

alawites should to take weapons and fight, but surely all most all men well trained have fled to russia, libya, algeria, irak, iran…

MIA

syria would have disintegrate apart ten years ago, and that would have been best for the alawites.

MIA

traitorous russia in all its glory, my applause.

anon

russia should just leave syria. leave it to erdogan and shlomo and their cannibal head choppers, the turds and the amerikunts. leave them to fight like rats in a sack and sink ever deeper in a cesspit of their own making. blackrock merz had better get ready to welcome another 5 million refugees. russia doesn’t need it – tartus was never very important.

Punishment for treason

russia is cooperating with the turkish gang.i’m curious to see what cooperation will look like when the chechens see that they can bild the caliphate in chechnya?

MIA

that will be a fair and just punishment for treason.

MIA

why, israel is doing great defending the druze, let katz army cut syria in two? if a country is not functioning, it is better to split it into several smaller countries. if there are more religions, it’s immediately a religious war, just look at what clinton and the other idiots made in bosnia. bin laden and al qaeda went to yugoslavia and yugoslavia had to be abolished.

the narrative

israel in not defending the druze . they are murdering druze people by proxy .

MIA

however, they made a mistake, because wahhabism should have its own smaller country, not one that also includes herzegovinians and serbs.so things will soon get ugly in bosnia because they are not meant to be together. i understand the druze want to be part of israel because i see no perspective for syria other than genocide.

this is what it looks like when you have iran and russia as allies.
germany will not help them, the only one who is obligated to help is israel. their task is to take these alawites as their subsidiary state. the druze have become full-fledged israelis and even pilots idf f-35s.

the inaugural mannheim conference in support of syria’s al-sahel, homs, and hama regions concluded in mannheim, southwestern germany, with participants pledging to use all means, from advocacy to documentation, to pursue justice and end atrocities in syria.

end killings, and punish perpetrators,” calling “to adopt positions consistent with international laws and human rights charters and take all necessary measures, whether related to investigation, follow-up, and monitoring, or to emergency relief, aid, and rehabilitation of affected areas.
the conference announced the establishment of a “follow-up committee” to remain in permanent session for coordination and communication with relevant parties and organizations concerned with syrian affairs

MIA

who will punish the perpetrators, other perpetrators? this is bin laden’s al-qaeda, currently led by erdogan. the only just punishment would be to show the real culprit, the muslim brotherhood and erdogan. let the turkish alawites decide in the elections…

what are the russians thinking dealing with those bastards?

the mannheim conference marks the first initiative of its kind, bringing together for the first time in person a group of over 100 expatriate academics and activists originally from syrian regions affected by recent massacres, in addition to several alawite syrian associations, unions, and organizations from across europe and the united states.

participants convened this conference, initiated by syrian intellectuals based in germany, to coordinate effective responses to the ongoing massacres, economic executions, and systematic marginalization targeting specific syrian communities based on sectarian affiliation.the conference featured extensive discussions, particularly following recent calls by religious authorities and activists from the alawite community demanding international protection, a point reflected in the final statement’s

declaration that “it is he who killed based on identity who violates our nation’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, not the blood-soaked victim.”

the conference’s guest of honor was french-based journalist mayada rihaan, daughter of um ayman rihaan, a woman who gained public attention when a video showed her guarding the bodies of her two sons and granddaughter.

Dasha

the video shows rihaan confronting armed men who had accused their alawite community of treason. mayada presented audio recordings of her final communication with one brother moments before his killing, asserting that the killers were wearing ministry of defense uniforms.

Dasha

earlier in april, amnesty international found that the events that unfolded in syria’s coastline area were “war crimes”, holding syrian interim government forces accountable for the massacres.

amnesty international highlighted that pro-government militants killed over 100 people in the seaside city of baniyas on march 8 and 9, 2025. the group investigated 32 incidents and determined that they were purposeful and targeted the alawite minority.

Dasha

eyewitnesses informed the organization that armed men asked victims if they were alawites before threatening or murdering them.

in certain cases, they held them responsible for transgressions committed by the ousted regime. authorities also compelled families to bury their loved ones in mass graves, with no religious or public rituals. http s://engli sh.almaybad een.ne t /ne ws/poli tics/mann heim-confere nce-dema nds-end-to-syria-mass ac res–jus tic e

the alawites have been persecuted since their inception because they are considered traitors by sunnies, and that is precisely why the israelis should provide them with subsidiary assistance.

Dasha

the feud increased after greek independence. in 1821, nearly 5000 jews were massacred together with the turks in the uprisings in the peloponnese.

the jews were forced to flee to corfu. the religious hostility between them and the loyal ottoman jews grew even more as the greeks were caught up in the dream of megali idea after independence.

blood libel

Dasha

one of the most important elements that fed the judeo-orthodox hostility was the blood libel. with the lie that christian children were killed to make easter bread, the fanatical greek made the jews scapegoats, forcibly confiscating their property or forcing them to emigrate.

in 1840, the blood libel incident on the island of rhodes under ottoman rule was prevented in a short time before it led to a massacre of jews. on the other hand, traditional christian artisans and merchants were disturb
