Russian Chief Of General Staff: Military Phase Of Syrian Conflict Is Over. 3,000 Civilians Killed By US-led Coalition

Valery Gerasimov

The military phase of the Syrian conflict has ended, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, said at the Moscow International Security Conference on April 24.

“Currently, the military phase of the conflict is over. Within two years, with the Russian support, the collapse of the Syrian state was prevented, and most of the country’s territory was returned to the control of government forces,” the Russian commander said, according to Interfax.

Gen. Gerasimov added that that all the conditions needed for a political settlement and a reconciliation process in Syria have been set. He also stressed that there will be no more “large-scale military operations” in the war-torn country.

The Russian commander revealed that the support of Russian forces has allowed the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to liberate 1,400 settlements and 8 oil and gas fields throughout Syria. The Russian military campaign in Middle Eastern country began in mid-2015.

Commenting on the US-led coalition operations in Syria, Gen. Gerasimov said that at least 3,000 people, including 1,400 women and children, were killed by the coalition. These numbers are close to those provided by independent groups, such as AirWars.

While Syria will not likely witness any large-scale battles from now on, the country is still far from being stable. Last week, more than 50 Syrian service members were killed by terrorist groups. The northeastern part of the country is also witnessing unprecedented tension between Turkey and local Kurdish forces.

What does this mean for Idlib then?

Adam Kafei

I hope that Turkey will return it, along with northern Aleppo province, my expectation is another Golan heights scenario since for whatever reason Russia seems to value Turkey’s favour over their alliance with Syria.

I don’t know though, maybe the Russians have something else in the works that we don’t know about.

JHK

Russia has a grasp of Islamic Jihad that zoomers dont.

Joe Kerr

Breaking up NATO would high on the agenda.

Jens Holm

I am Nato. Perfect for me. Turks should not be Nato as well as EU anymore. The last 15 years everything there has gone the opposite way in Nato as well as EU integration.

Promitheas Apollonious

only one reason a gas pipe line been build on the ground of turkey.

Leon

And the selling of the S400, nuclear power plants, may be some SU 57, hope ( foulish) of breaking Nato.

So you see, Syria is no more very important for Putin. He has Tartous, Hmeim.

Promitheas Apollonious

it is also the gas and oil deposits in Mediterranean, that with russian backstage support turkey is trying to put claim on them. but that is secondary target.

RichardD

The Russians fought two wars with Chechen separatists and the second one took 10 years. They have a lot of experience dealing with these types of Jew world order Islamic fundamentalist terrorist idiots. They probably figured it was better than continuing to destroy infrastructure.

Jens Holm

Yerrrh, jews did it again ….

Jens Holm

The Turkish plan seemes to be to fill as many non kurdish refugees into the areas as possible.

christianblood

The war is far from over yet! Idlib is still under the control of Al-Qaeda and its affiliates!

Promitheas Apollonious

and that is thanks to whom exactly you know? Soon every thing will clear in the mionds of many.

Pavel Pavlovich

To every Syrian who did not choose to fight to the death.

Leon

No, the war is over :
Idlib is for Turkey ! Soon, the US will negociate NE
Syria and the delivery of the F35 against the abandon of the S400.
Israel and the US will prevent any arm conflict against Turkey.
Putin will agree as it’s good for the security of his friend Bibi ! Putin is not as smart as some people think.
I hope I’m wrong

AJ

Putin was head of the FSB & is also a lawyer so I’d say hes fairly intelligent.

Leon

Even a clever man can be manipulate by a crook like Erdogan.

christianblood

I hope you are wrong too!

Promitheas Apollonious

it means that the policy is to divide syria in 3 as well give the golan area to the israelis and that is the brokerage and the deals been made with out the syrian people have any saying in it.

Joe Kerr

Sadly, that appears to be the deal, notwithstanding Russia speaking against Trump’s Golan gift to his lord and master in Israel.

Promitheas Apollonious

I supported russian move in syria as someone needed to step in and stop what was happening and the reason it was happening, and causing million of refuges coming into our countries and ruining them, as well changing the demographics every where they been send by soros and its agents.

But then very few seen the turn in russia policies and what their alliance with the turks mean as well their side dealings with the ones who seemed to have come to stop. Taking advantage of the fact syrians needed them to survive isis and their patrons, they have decided with out the syrians how they sell out their homeland with out them to have a choice or a saying in what happens to them.

To me now is the same shit as the rest with a different name. many here confuse supporting someone or a country with been a blind brainless follower of them and those are people who have double standards so if they doing it is ok if someone else does it then is criminal. This mentality of the slave and the ones who have no judgement is what causing our world to collapse.

Astrid Watanabe

“….very few seen the turn in Russia policies…….”
I saw it but it stunned me and i did not know what to make of it till you pointed it out and then I recognized it. Ma-laoshi also saw it clearly, and some others even earlier.

Jens Holm

My version is, that Assads would give Afrins nothing and demended the Damaskus offices opened right away and the YPG ones closed.

Russia tryed to go clothe to both parts, but both – and mainly Assads – were as stubbern as it goes.

Russia is not Syria and has its of agenda. A smaller Syria might even be easier for Russia to control and have hands on if needed. Its also more easy to help having those morons in Idlib, Afrin, Al Bab and even the SDFs.

They now do have the best bases ever and can build more. They do have hopes getting at least some money back even hopes often are more like birds on the roof in stead on in hands.

Putin never promised to take all Syria back. He promised Assads and the Regime would remain safe and also told long time ago, that taking back the rest was an internl matter.

So Assads can take it back, but can not because Russia dont give them the extra they need.

Some might name the many lines inside Syria as “Exhaustien lines” :) + :(

RichardD

If that was the case, then the terrorists wouldn’t be getting attacked on a daily basis and the deconfliction agreement wouldn’t continue to be implemented. If you weren’t a defeatist shilling for the Jews you’d deal with facts and evidence rather than doing the ostrich thing.

Promitheas Apollonious

stupido I am not syrian or russian in order to be defeatist and I judge base on facts and not an illusion in your single cell moronic brain. As for the voices you think you hear is just the air passing via the empty space between your ears and not angel voices as you believe. keep taking your medication just make sure you dont get over maidcated as it seems to be the case with you.

RichardD

What facts are those? I tried to have this debate with you before about the Idlib agreement implementation. But you can’t conduct a rational fact and evidence based debate with an irrational moron like you who ignores facts and evidence, and rather than debating material issues instead dodges them and goes off on myopic insult filled rants that have nothing to do with the issues being addressed.

Jens Holm

Yerrh, the jews do everything. They even bombarde Idlib from all sides and pilots of the russian jets are camouflaged jews using helmets to cover their nice curly hair.

Jens Holm

Golan was given away in 1967 and insisting in 1973.

You seemes only able to understand military lines in that region.

Hardly none here are the same about the SDF gas and oil telling it cannot be shared. SDFs has stolen it. And we never hear about the many ancient Assad oilfields being shared with any. The Baathist has them as private property.

RichardD

It means that the terrorists are going to keep getting hit until the deconfliction agreement is implemented and the Syrian government reasserts full control over the province.

wwinsti

It means it’s up to Iran.

Jens Holm

They are hardly nothing in those matters.

Pavel Pavlovich

Syria is not a force anyway, too bad Syrians did not consolidate enough for the defense of every corner. Now they will pay the price. In a, hopefully soon too come, future, Turkey and Iran will be the major shakers.

Sukhoi

means Idlib Op wont be happening for at least 6 months – a year or even a couple years

Leon

That means that Idlib is for Turkey ! Soon, the US will negociate NE Syria and the delivery of the F35 against the abandon of the S400. Israel and the US will prevent any arm conflict against Turkey.
Putin will agree as it’s good for the security of his friend Bibi ! Putin is not as smart as some people think.
I hope I’m wrong

You can call me Al

I think he is as smart as we think, however I am both disappointed and rather embarrassed that I have defended him in saying the major attack is immanent.

Leon

I still think he was manipulated by stronger than him.

HardHawk

you believe wrong. And something else you should base your thinking on, facts. Believing is like religion that you believe in faith and you know nothing, so all in your mind is an illusion. On the other hand rather than believing you should chose knowledge based on fact. It makes you more intelligent.

Leon

Ok, what are the facts ? Idlib is lost, Israel as a clearance to bomb Syria, It took almost 9 years before delivering the paid S300 to Syria. ( Thank to Choigu who was fed up with the IL 20 shot down ), dozens of thousands terrorists are on holidays in Idlib reinforced by Turkey…. Is that enough as facts?

Pavel Pavlovich

And you fault Vlad? You dumb f**k. Syrians are to blame at least 50%.

HardHawk

and that prove what you said? You have a long way to go to be able thinking based on facts kid. But keep trying.

FlorianGeyer

President Putin has just offered Russian citizenship to the citizens of Donetsk and Lugansk. This is a few years after the first calls to do so, but today, the time is right I would think.

There are literally tens of thousands of gang members in Idlib with guns that are supplied from Turkey. In time the financial strain on Turkey will cause a situation whereby the gang members have to be disarmed by the Turks, in order to prevent blow back by these terrorists within Turkey.

Given time, the cancer in Idlib will grow and threaten its host. This is when President Putin and the SAA+ allies , can offer to cut the cancer out of the Turkish host. It would be a humanitarian gesture to Turkey to do so :) In my opinion it could take up to 2 years.

By that time, the US will be in further turmoil, as will be be the UK and EU.
In war, never willingly give what your opponents want, and today the US et al are spoiling for a fight, as they all know that tomorrow their houses of cards will begin to blow down.

ruca

Well said FG

You can call me Al

Oh, I do like that; excellent conclusion.

Thank you.

jorge

Bad translation or bad way of express: “Currently, the military phase of the conflict is over.” The term “currently” denies or is in oposition with the term “is over”. It’s a contradiction in the terms of the speech (and also an absurd and hilarious geopolitical nonsense).

FlorianGeyer

Yes, the word ‘currently’ could be replaced with ‘at the moment’, which also does not preclude military action ( phase ) after the ‘moment’ has passed :)

jorge

So the translation should be ‘it’s over for the moment’, no?

FlorianGeyer

Either is ok.

HardHawk

if you believe that it means you are either a single cell or in coma.

Leon

Politeness ? ever heard about ?

HardHawk

Nope and is not my thing. I prefer facts and truth. politeness is for sheep and PC slaves following the system that brainwashed them.

Pavel Pavlovich

You are a dumb ass. Nut`n`Yahoo is a nobody without Washington. You mindless maddening balderdash spewing lobotomy victims will never learn that Israhell is naught, and will collapse without their great masters.

Leon

Politeness ? ever heard about ?

Pavel Pavlovich

I know no politeness for Hasbara trolls. Bugger off.

JHK

A nonBeliever will not be able to see any Islamic Religious significance, by definition.

Whereas All Believers will, by definition.

Romeo Pesiao

US coalition killed 3,000 civilians,,,, Russians killed more than 3,000 civilians ..

Promitheas Apollonious

us coalition is the main responsible force behind all the deaths in syria and not only so do the maths again and stop believing every BS you read with out using common sense and putting the dots together. That of course if you have the capacity to do so.

Jens Holm

Important but not the only one.

goingbrokes

Good one!

Sukhoi

US/Turkey/Saudin Arabia/Israel/France – start war by sending in cia/operatives to train FSA/muslim brotherhood fanatics in 2011. 2012, cia sends in billions of dollars worth of weapons to FSA/Al-Nusra to topple Assad. 2014-2015 – US watches and allows isis to overrun Eastern/Central Syria and approach Damascus. -2012-2018 – Israel arms and protects al-qaeda/isis on golan heights border until Russia and Syrian Army kicked them out

Leon

It’s not impossible that one day or another, the terrorists in Idlib will move to Russia. Russia will regret not having crushed them to death.

Pavel Pavlovich

Hasbara troll, go away, bother someone else.

Jens Holm

It is allowed to have more then one oppinion about things in the world of Soutfront. Else You wasnt here.

Sinbad2

Americas terrorists have been attacking Russia for years.
Remember when Reagan created the Mujahideen to attack Russia?
How about the Beslan school massacre?

As long as the USA exists their will be terrorism.

RGtz98

Remember how many times they say that , and they just wait for another small escalation to return. Hope they do that in order so the jihadis attack

RichardD

This sounds like declare victory and stay. We’ve heard this type of thing before in the Syrian war. And then when circumstances required it, there was a resumption of military action on an as needed basis. The same thing happened in Chechnya. There was a second Chechen war after the first one to solidify government control over the separatists.

Jens Holm

Number 1 was stopped by West. Number 2 was not stopped by West in trade for Baltics – something like that.

Marko

It sounds like Russia is about to suffer from another premature evacuation. You’d think that people would’ve learned from Dubya that “Mission Accomplished” declarations don’t usually pan out.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Resolution 2254 is the Assad killer, I was right, this is how Putin intends to repay Assad for his loyalty, by delivering free and fair elections to Syria via that resolution. Sure they’re going to be free and fair elections, but with huge amounts of US, EU, and Israeli money all being spent on opposition groups. They can’t boot him out militarily so they intend to buy him out of office instead.
But Assad’s fighting back, he’s just issued a new statement that leaves us in no doubt that he isn’t a party to these procedures at all. I don’t know what he can do to help himself, but I’m sure he’s no longer in any doubt about Putin’s true motives and objectives. So I think Assad will now start look for an alternative strategy to circumvent this new resolution, that’s if there is any alternative available, and if there isn’t I think he’ll try to come up with one himsel, [though sadly I don’t think he’ll be able to]. And I’m also sure we’ll soon see a fracturing of the Assad Putin relationship too, sometime in the very near future, you can only let a friend stab you in the back so many times before you realize your supposed friend is no friend at all.
To be honest I think Iran is also capitulating to the west and allowing Assad to be thrown under the bus by endorsing this resolution. The Iranians may have been promised something by Putin and others that makes it preferable to keeping Assad in power, otherwise they would never have endorsed resolution 2254 in the first place. This is a mystery for me, I understand the whore Putin endorsing the resolution, but I can’t think of even one reason why the Iranians would have also endorsed it, which makes me think something big’s in the offer to Iran, and we the public have no idea what it is yet. When hostilities finally end in Syria, and Iran addresses Israeli concerns satisfactorily, Iran will start pumping many billions of dollars worth of gas and oil to China annually and become filthy rich, and I mean filthy rich, is Assad’s political survival as important as that is to the Iranians, I’m not so sure anymore.

Jens Holm

You are related to some cousin of Goebbels.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Why are so rude to people for just expressing an opinion you retarded little twerp, even if I was related to Goebbels it wouldn’t mean anything, you act more like him than I do anyway, since you’re always trying to put people down for expressing their beliefs and opinions, toss off you weird little man, go read some of your dirty boy magazines and don’t use these forums to express your usually foul observations about people who do actually have opinions, especially ones you don’t agree with.
We all know your certifably insane by the ranting gibberish you usually put up as comment, and that’s ok, it’s just your rude remarks to other forum users that makes you truly annoying, and way more of a protege to Goebbels than I could ever be, you’re the sort of person who shoots people for having an opinion, we all know that already, you dickhead.

Concrete Mike

Way to put the fascist.pig.in his place!

verner

no don’t think so – but I would say that bolton is closely related to heinrich himmler, fatso with hermann goehring and donny the dunce to hess, abrams first cousin of reinhardt heydrich and then you have an assortment of closely related minions which can be omitted right now.

Sinbad2

“Resolution 2254 is the Assad killer,”
How does the UN resolution calling for a ceasefire and a political solution harm Assad?
He has and would win any election in Syria.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Because it also calls for a redrawing of the constitution with only 50 if the representatives being from government institutions, 50 coming from so called independent parties, and the worst, 50 from the opposition parties, meaning that the terrorists Assad’s fighting in Idlib also get a say in the new constitution, very very bad. That means the new constitution will be written up equally between Assad’s government, the autonomous government the US has installed in the north, and the opposition groups like the FSA and NFL and other non designated terrorists groups, [but they are] that are opposed to Assad, sounds fair doesn’t it, NOT.
Yes as I posted, Assad did win free and fair election in 2014, the impartial monitors agreed, and he’d win another one too if it was held using the old constitution framework, but I don’t think he could win the next one after constitutional reforms.
US, EU and Turkish money would flow straight to the newly allowed NGO’s and opposition parties, and the new constitutional reforms will most likely give them, the opposition parties and NGO’s, special privileges and exemptions, as well as any other advantages they can [and please don’t say they wouldn’t], and that would be the end of free and fair, I’ll call the next Syrian election bought and paid for, not free and fair.
Look up what the resolution says, and how the new constitution is going to be made up and by whom. Do some of your own research, don’t just read SF articles, and learn to read between the lines, there’s always more than one story in every article, sometimes three.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

So nobody cares about Idlib?
Thats one way to make the region a ISIS safeheaven and destroy civilian support for Assad.

But perhaps thats been the point the entire way, because that way they can always blow the fire whenever they need a new local war or Turkey was handed over Idlib to prevent them going in and support the western coalition, with Russia approving it all, because Russia needs to please Turkey as the “rouge” NATO member?

Or General Valery Gerasimov only meant the Russian part of the Syrian war.

Or they all just agreed to blow up fake info so see the reactions.

Its all politics so everything in on the table, no matter how far out and stupid it sounds.

verner

mostly mopping up operations and that include idlib and the northeast und zu weiter. you should be aware that turkey in general and erdogan in particular hate the squatters and would do anything to unseat them once and for all. thus the axis of resistance: iran, turkey, syria, lebanon/hezbollah and qatar with loads of money are working towards that end and the group is making inroads in the squatters sphere of interest and they will continue to do so.

to make it more severe, the neo-nazi morons of washington dc have put bounties of 10m$ on the heads of certain alleged hizbollah financiers and from my point of view, the group should, directly or indirectly, put bounties on the heads of the squatters warmongers/financiers, type sheldon adelson, the leading powers within aipac, kushner and so on. that would be something to behold!!

Γιάννης Καράς

Bye-bye Idlib!Putin gift to his friend…

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

no it is not, idlib must be fully liberated
