On October 1, 2024, the Russian army took control of the fortress of Ugledar. Yesterday, the Russian troops broke through Ukrainian defense lines west and south of the city and expanded their foothold in the eastern part. Pounding Ukrainian garrison, Russian forces squeezed the cauldron.

The footage shows that Russian servicemen are moving freely on the city streets and they are no longer afraid of Ukrainian attacks. Russian control of the largest part of the city was secured. The remaining Ukrainian forces attempted to escape through the fields north of Ugledar under heavy Russian control. Some decided to surrender to save their lives.
The mop up operations continue in Ugledar, mainly in the northern part of the city. After the mop up operations are completed and the city outskirts are secured, the Russian Ministry of Defense will officially confirm the full control of Ugledar. The Ukrainian military officials never confirms the defeats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine but all Ukrainian military sources confirm the inevitable loss of Ugledar. According to various estimations of the Ukrainian monitoring sources, the Ukrainian army lost at least 700 servicemen in the heavy urban battles for the fortress not to mention the units destroyed on the strongholds around Ugledar aimed to defend the city. The main losses are suffered by the 72nd and 58th brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that were ordered to defend Ugledar until the last Ukrainian. Their command reportedly allowed them to withdraw from the city only in the evening of September 30, when the garrison was completely surrounded and almost defeated.
