The Russian military destroyed a large weapons depot belonging to the 56th Motorized Brigade of Kiev forces in the industrial zone of the Kramatorsk settlement in the Donetsk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on July 26.
In a brief statement, the ministry revealed that the weapons depot was targeted using Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles.
The pinpoint missile strike destroyed six multiple rocket launch systems, one American-made M142 HIMARS and five Soviet-made BM-21 Grad, in addition to five main battle tanks and up to ten infantry fighting vehicles, according to the ministry.
Ukrainian media reported a powerful missile strike on Kramatorsk on July 25. Secondary blasts and fires went on in the settlement’s industrial zone for hours after the strike.
The Iskander-M has a range of nearly 500 kilometers and can be armed with different conventional warheads. The highly-maneuverable missile is guided by a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. It can be also equipped with an optical seeker with a digitized scene-mapping area correlator system for terminal guidance.
Russia increased production of Iskander-M missiles after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago.
In recent months, the Russian military began to rely more on the missile to quickly and accurately target high-value Ukrainian targets like weapons depots.
