The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several Ukrainian formations while repelling five attacks in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on October 12.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that the 22nd, 41st, 47th, and 115th Mechanised Brigades, the 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd and 95th air assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade, as well as the 103rd and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses near the settlements of Daryino, Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, Tolsty Lug, Novy Put, and Plekhovo.
The failed Ukrainian attacks targeted Lyubimovka, Tolsty Lug and the settlements of Novoivanovka, according to the ministry.
“As a result, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] lost up to 60 people killed and wounded, two tanks, six armored fighting vehicles, and five motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
In addition, the ministry announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 47th, and 61st mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 82nd, and 95th air assault brigades, the 1st National Guard Brigade, as well as the 103rd, 112th, and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Vladimirovka, Daryino, Kolmakov, Kozhachaya Loknya, Lyubimovka, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Martynovka, Makhnovka, Nikolayevo-Darino, Novy Put, Novoivanovka, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Sverdlikovo, Sudzha, Tolsty Lug, and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 47th, and 115th mechanized brigades, the 95th Air Assault Brigade, the 36th Marine Brigade, as well as the 103rd and 119th territorial defense brigades near the settlements of Belopolye, Belovody, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Vorozhba, Vodolagi, Kislaya Dubina, Mirlogi, Obody, Pavlovka, Rechki, Stepanovka, Sumy, and Shpil in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
”During the day, the AFU losses amounted to more than 400 troops, 18 armored vehicles, including six tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, 10 armored fighting vehicles, as well as four artillery guns, two multiple rocket launchers (American-made HIMARS MLRS and Czech-made Vampire MLRS launchers), four mortars, one electronic warfare station, and 14 motor vehicles. Seven AFU servicemen surrendered,” the ministry detailed in a briefing.
Separately, the ministry released three videos showing attack helicopters targeted Kiev forces in Kursk as well as a recent Lancet strike on a Ukrainian tank in the same direction.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack from Sumy into Kursk last August. The Russian military is currently conducting a counter-attack. So far, over a dozen settlements have been liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 22,300 troops, 150 tanks, 71 infantry fighting vehicles, 98 armored personnel carriers, 907 armored fighting vehicles, 608 motor vehicles, 185 artillery guns, 36 launchers, including nine American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, nine air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 48 electronic warfare stations, nine counter-battery radars, three aerial radars, 22 engineering vehicles, including 13 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and three armored recovery vehicle.
