The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) has received a batch of Su-34 fighter bombers, the press service of Rostec announced on August 12.

“The United Aircraft Corporation has delivered new Su-34 fighter-bombers to the Defense Ministry of Russia. The aircraft have replenished the fleet of operational/tactical aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The aircraft have been manufactured under the defense procurement plan for this year,” the press office said in a statement.

The Su-34, manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant, has a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 at altitude and a combat radius of 1,100 kilometers with a standard 12,000 kg weapons load.

It was designed primarily for tactical deployment against ground and naval targets on solo and group missions in daytime and at night, under favorable and adverse weather conditions and in a hostile environment with air defense and electronic warfare deployed, as well as for aerial reconnaissance.

The fighter bomber can deploy a wide range of precision-guided munitions, including glide bombs, land-attack cruise missiles, anti-radar missiles and anti-ship missiles.

In addition, it can also be armed with short-range and beyond visual range air-to-air missiles for self-defense, a unique feature for a fighter bomber.

Rostec said that the Su-34s delivered to the VKS underwent a full cycle of factory trials and testing in various operational modes.

“The Su-34 frontline bomber has long proved to be the best in its class. The aircraft’s capabilities enable pilots to operate successfully in theaters of military operations and employ both unguided and guided air-launched weapons. The aircraft is needed in present-day combat operations and our aircraft factories have ramped up production rates and ensure smooth deliveries to the troops,” Rostec Executive Director Oleg Yevtushenko said.

More than 120 Su-34s are currently in service with the VKS. At least two dozen are from the latest M version, which features upgraded radar, sight, and communication systems.

The production of the fighter bomber has more than doubled in the last two years, according to Rostec. In fact, this was the third batch delivered to the VKS since the start of 2025. Additional Su-34s were manufactured for a foreign customer, which is reported to be Algeria.
