In recent days, Russian forces launched offensive operations in the area of the village of Makeevka in the Krasny Liman direction. According to Ukrainian military sources, the Russian army took control of the village.
The frontlines in the Krasny Liman direction were inflamed by heavy battles but they remained unchanged for about a year. Amid intense fighting and local attacks, none of the warring parties conducted large-scale operations in the area. In the recent months, the Russian military launched attacks in different directions, including in the Kharkiv region, forcing the Armed Forces of Ukraine to concentrate large reserves to reinforce defense in particular areas. As a result, Ukrainian defense was weakened along the entire front and even the local Russian attacks bring important victories.
New Russian victory was reported in the village of Makeevka located on the shores of the Zherebets River. According to preliminary reports, the Armed Forces of Ukraine retreated from the settlement and took defense on the western bank, which is higher than the eastern one. Russian military sources deny the full Russian control of the village which is mainly in the grey zone. Russian forces gained a foothold in its eastern part. The battle for the village continues.
The control of Makeevka will allow the Russian military to gains a strategically important stronghold on the western bank of the Zherebets River which will threaten Ukrainian defense in the entire region.
