The Russian military made more gains in several areas in the Kharkiv direction, as well in the direction of Donetsk, according to reports from October 13.
To the north of the city of Kharkiv, the Zapad [West] Group of Forces repelled another Ukrainian counter attack on its positions on the left bank of the Volchya River in Volchansk, in the forest west of Synelnykove. Fierce battles are reported to be still taking place there.
A bit to the southeast, the group has reportedly advanced some half a kilometer from Melovoye in the direction of Khatneye.
Meanwhile, fighting continued in Kupansk with the Zapad Group of Forces working to clear the center of the key city from Ukrainian troops. While there were no specific details, reports from Ukrainian media suggest that Russian troops are about to capture all of the city.
Currently most of the eastern and western parts of Kupyansk are under Russian control. Kiev forces seem incapable of conducting any counterattack.
The group has also advanced from Stepova Novoselivka, to the southeast of Kupyansk, westward, putting more pressure on Kiev forces in the pocket to the east of the Oskil River.
In southern Kharkiv, the Zapad Group of Forces imposed control of Borovskaya Andreyevka, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. From the settlement, Russian troops could advance towards Borova, reaching the Oskil in a new area. This would further stretch Ukrainian defenses, and if Kiev fails to make a timely response a breakthrough across the river is possible.

To the south in Donetsk, the Yug [South] Group of Forces is expanding its control to the north of Krasny Liman at a slow, but steady pace.
Russian troops advance in Novoselivka, mainly in the northern and eastern part of the settlement. More gains were also reported to the south of Derylove.
It’s worth noting here that Kiev forces in Krasny Liman have been also facing pressure from the eastern direction, mainly from Zarichne, as well as some pressure from the southeastern direction, from Yampil which could soon fall into the hands of the Yug Group of Forces.

All in all, Kiev forces appear to be incapable of holding onto its defense lines in any part of Kharkiv, or nearby areas in Donetsk. And with all the shortages facing Ukraine, things will not likely get better any time in the near future. Soon, Kiev will have to sacrifice some areas in order to hold others.
