On November 15, the Russian military advanced in two settlements close to Pokrovsk and repelled more Ukrainian counterattacks nearby in Donetsk.
To the east of Pokrovsk, the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces reportedly made gains in the eastern and northern parts of Myrnohrad, taking over several high-rise buildings. In addition, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing that the group, more specifically the 51st Army, advanced in the Vostochny neighborhood, made gains in the southern part of the large settlement, and approached the Zapadny microdistrict.
The ministry also said that the Tsentr Group of Forces is “mopping up” Rovnoye, also known as Rivne, which is located closer to Pokrovsk.
In Porkovsk itself, the 2nd Army advanced in the western part of the city, in the northwestern and eastern quarters of the Central District, as well as in the western industrial area, according to the ministry, which also said that multiple Ukrainian counterattacks were repelled.
“Seven attacks of the 32nd Mechanised Brigade, the 425th Skala Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were repelled from the area of Grishino (Donetsk People’s Republic). Ukrainian troops attempted to unblock the encircled group,” the ministry added.
Detailing recent Ukrainian losses in Pokrovsk and nearby area, the ministry said that “up to 270 troops, 11 units of weapons and military hardware have been neutralised including three armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, three field artillery guns, one electronic warfare station, and a radar.”
To the northeast of the city, in the so-called Dobropillya salient, the Tsentr Group of Forces is again advancing, specifically in Shakhove. A large part of the settlement is already under the control of Russian troops, according to preliminary reports.
Once Pokrovsk is fully secured, the Russian military will likely resume its offensive on Dobropillya, a key command and logistic hub of Kiev forces.
It is unclear if Kiev forces have prepared solid defenses beyond Pokrovsk, as it had invested much of its resources in futile attempts to hold onto the city. A breakthrough to the north of the city would be catastrophic for Ukraine on so many levels and could lead to a collapse in Donetsk.
