Russian Army Is Kicking Ukrainian Forces Out Of More Border Towns (Videos)

The Russian military made more gains along the border with Ukraine on February 7, expelling Kiev forces from two settlements, one in the region of Kharkiv and another in the region of Sumy.

In Kharkiv, the Sever [North] Group of Forces imposed control of Chugunovka, located in the direction of Milove, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Ukraine’s 1st Special Operations Brigade fought fiercely inside the settlement, but ultimately lost it to the 83rd and 344th motor rifle brigades of the Sever Group of Forces.

Chugunovka is located on the road leading west to Prykolotne, a key logistics hub of Kiev forces near the border. After securing the outskirts of the settlement, Russian troops could advance along the road in that direction, or expand their control north along the border by attacking Shevyakivka.

Meanwhile in Sumy, specifically in the direction of Krasnopol, the Sever Group of Forces expelled Kiev forces from Popovka. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the settlement was captured by the 34th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade.

“Operating closely with artillery units and unmanned systems operators, the assaultmen strengthen the safe zone and provide additional protection to civilians from AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) terrorist threats,” the ministry said in a statement.

The capture of Popovka brought the Sever Group of Forces closer to the eastern outskirts of Krasnopillia, which is located on a key road leading to Sumy center.

In recent weeks, the Russian military expanded its operations along the border with Ukraine in a notable way. These operations in Sumy and Kharkiv are meant to establish a security zone to prevent cross-border attacks on the Russian regions of Kursk and Belgorod.

Furthermore, by expanding its control along the border in these two regions, Russia is increasing military-political pressure on Ukraine, which has so far refused to withdraw from the region of Donetsk during talks.

Kiev, which is suffering from a serious shortage in manpower, is clearly no longer capable of defending the border line between these two regions.
