Russian Army Has Already Secured Third Of Huliaipole (Videos)

On December 12, the Russian military expanded its control in Huliaipole in Zaporozhye, securing at least a third of the key city.

The Vostok [East] Group of Forces stormed the eastern and northeastern parts of the city, taking control of Peschanya Street, after crossing the Haichur River a day earlier. Within 24 hours, Russian troops managed to reach the Specialized School at the city center after capturing large parts of Mira, Velyka and Urozhaina streets.

Currently 30% of Huliaipole is under Russian control. Around 2,4 square kilometers within the city have been captured, according to preliminary reports.

The quick Russian advance in Huliaipole was facilitated by intense airstrikes on Ukrainian fortifications there. Drone units have been also targeting any movement by Kiev forces inside or around the city, rendering the only open road to the city from the west nearly impossible to use.

It’s worth noting that the Vostok Group is currently working to reach Huliaipole from the north by expanding its control along the Haichur. Russian troops are advancing in Varvarivka, located right to the north of the city. A heated battle is taking place there.

The capture of Varvarivka would allow Russian troops to cross the river to the north of Huliaipole and attack Zelene. Advancing south from the settlement, the troops will be able to block the city from the west and besiege any remaining Ukrainian troops inside of it.

The Vostok Group of Forces advance in Huliaipole was much faster than expected. At this rate, the battle in the city could end with a Russian victory within a few weeks, not months as believed before.

A Ukrainian defeat in Huliaipole could open the door for additional collapses to the west in Zaporozhye, mainly in the directions of Orikhiv and Stepnohirsk. The Vostok Group of Forces is already advancing in both of these directions, although at a slower pace.
