Russian air defenses has repelled yet another Ukrainian attack, shooting down at least 11 suicide drones over three Russian regions.
Late on July 27, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that two drones were shot down over the region of Belgorod.
The ministry said in two more statements released on July 28 morning that nine additional drones were intercepted, five over Belgorod, two over the Kursk region and two over the region of Nizhny Novgorod. In a statement issued later in the afternoon, the ministry announced that another drone was shot down over Belgorod.
Following the attack, the press service of Nizhny Novgorod regional government said that industrial facilities in the region were functioning normally.
“Electronic warfare assets suppressed operations of unmanned aerial vehicles in the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod Region this morning. Industrial facilities are functioning as usual,” the press service said in a statement.
However, in Kursk fire broke out at three fuel tanks as a result of the attack, according to acting governor of the region Alexey Smirnov.
“Ukrainian drones attacked an oil terminal in the Kursk Region this night. Three tanks with fuel caught fire. No residents and industrial facility workers were affected,” Smirnov said on his Telegram channel.
Firefighting teams of 82 rescuers and 32 special vehicles are dealing with the situation. The fire in one tank was eliminated at the moment. “Fire extinguishing continues. I thank firefighters for courage and dedication,” the governor added.
A day earlier, air defenses shot down over 40 Ukrainian suicide drones over seven different regions in Russia. No losses were reported.
Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian territory in the last few months, targeting mainly civilian properties and infrastructure, usually using drones either supplied directly by its backers in NATO or made locally from commercial models and parts.
The Kiev regime apparently views these attacks as a way to make up for the recent failures of its forces on the battlefields.
The Russian military has already resumed group strikes against Ukraine in response. Much of the country’s military infrastructure and power grid have been hit.
