The Russian military continues to advance in several directions across the special military operation zone, amid heavy losses by Kiev forces.
In a lightning amphibious attack, the special forces of the military intelligence of the Dnepr Group of Forces captured Alekseevsky Island, located near the Antovsky Bridge in the Kherson direction.
On September 12, troops from one of the formations that took part in the successful attack confirmed the advance to RIA Novosti, adding that all the islands in the floodplain in the Dnepr River are under the complete control of the Russian military.
TASS reported two days later that 12 Ukrainian troops who attempted to withdraw from the island were eliminated by Russian drone operators.
On the same day, it was reported that a warplane of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) attacked with a UMPK-equipped FAB-1500 guided glide bomb a drone control center of Kiev forces on Quarantine Island in Kherson. The losses caused by the airstrike are unknown.
Meanwhile in the Kharkiv direction, it was reported on September 14 that the Zapad [West] Group of Forces has established a foothold in the city of Kupyansk after entering it earlier in the week in a complex operation that involved troops sneaking through an inactive gas pipeline to a nearby area.
Some reports indicate that most of the northern part of Kupyansk is currently under the control of Russian troops, amid a partial retreat by Kiev forces.
Vitaly Ganchev, head of the Kharkov Military-Civil Administration, even said that Ukrainian troops have practically withdrawn from the city.
“Our forward assault teams have already been in the city, we all saw this footage. They were practically in the heart of Kupyansk. It shows that Ukrainian armed groups have practically left the city. They are staying only in their well-fortified areas and are actively withdrawing from frontline positions. They realize that staying in Kupyansk will be a death sentence for them,” he told Soloviev Live television.
During the fighting in Kupyansk, a Senior Lieutenant of Ukraine’s 3rd Heavy Mechanized Brigade was reportedly killed. Kiev forces are also rumored to be amassing reinforcements near the city, possibly for a counterattack.
More advance was also reported on September 14 in Donetsk, mainly in the direction of Pokrovsk, with troops from the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces gaining ground in the eastern outskirts of the settlement of Kazatskoye, which is located to the south of the settlement of Mirnograd.
Russian FPV suicide drones inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces between Pokrovsk and nearby region of Dnipropetrovsk in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile in the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Vostok [East] Group of Forces managed to secure more gains in two areas on September 14.
Russian troops captured most of the southern outskirts of the settlement of Stepnogorsk, reaching urban areas. At the same time, more advance was reported along the main road leading to Huliaipole, with troops reaching the southeastern outskirts of the settlement.
It’s worth noting that Kiev forces also sustained some serious losses as a result of recent Russian FPV suicide drone attacks in this direction.
In its daily briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine lost at least 1,330 troops in Kherson, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and other directions over the last 24 hours. That is in addition to dozens of military vehicles and multiple ammunition depots.
Kiev forces remain overwhelmed by the Russian military, which will likely continue to advance in the upcoming days. While a major Ukrainian collapse will not happen any time soon, the Russian pressure could force the country to cut its losses and retreat in areas like Kupyansk and Pokrovsk.

may be a bit unwise to capture that island. the men on it are sitting ducks. best to either cross the river or not cross it. but sitting in the middle of it is dangerous and senseless.
